Epic Aircraft parent company Aircraft Investor Resources (AIR) and Tbilisi Aircraft Manufacturing (TAM) last week further cemented their joint venture to develop the eight-seat TAM-AIR Elite Jet for the CIS market. The sole Elite Jet prototype arrived early last week at TAM’s facility at Tbilisi International Airport in the republic of Georgia, where it will be temporarily based for demonstration and marketing purposes.

HeliSolutions, the fractional helicopter provider in São Paulo, Brazil, has started a fractional jet company called JetSolutions, according to HeliSolutions president Allan Paiotti. Operating partners in JetSolutions include TAM (the distributor for Cessna in Brazil), Embraer and Swift Aviation Group of the U.S., the launch customer for Embraer’s Legacy business jet.

Almost all of the corporate aircraft manufacturers have now signed up for the new Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (LABACE), to be held next spring in São Paulo, Brazil. Organizers are expecting 300 exhibitors and 3,000 visitors for the event, which has been rescheduled from January 16 to 18 to March 13 to 15.

Put simply, the very light jet (VLJ) is a small airplane in search of a big market. Latin America might not be the big market the manufacturers hope for, but it does hold promise to be big enough. Just how big might depend on whether there is sufficient aviation infrastructure and government backing for an aviation segment perceived to be composed of rich men’s toys.

One year after beginning construction at its new maintenance facility, Táxi Aéreo Marília (TAM) has begun operations at its Jundiaí center, which will allow the company to handle 120 aircraft per month, double the number it services at its Congonhas facility. The new center briefly wears the crown as the largest business aviation maintenance facility in the world until Cessna inaugurates its new facility in Wichita this month.

Some 30 operators are now evaluating executive and corporate shuttle versions of the Fokker 100 twinjet (the F100EJ and F100CS, respectively), according to Fokker Services–a subsidiary of the Stork group that bought the assets of the bankrupt Dutch airframer and is marketing the converted airliners at prices ranging from $11 million to $12.5 million. The airplanes are also available for lease through UK-based Aravco.

A Learjet 35 crashed November 4 in São Paulo, Brazil, killing at least eight people. Witnesses said the airplane, owned by São Paulo-based air-taxi operator Reali Taxi Aerea, was attempting to return to Campo do Marte Airport just after takeoff in light rain, when it slammed nose first into a suburban neighborhood.
