This year’s keynote speaker at the 3rd annual Tampa Bay Aviation Association (TBAA) Safety Standdown is US Airways flight attendant Doreen Welsh, one of the cabin crew aboard Flight 1549 when it ditched in the frigid waters of the Hudson River in January 2009. Other presentations at the April 17 event will cover human factors and loss of control, as well as an introduction to the Tampa International Airport aircraft firefighting and rescue team. The event begins at 7:45 a.m.

Private aircraft flying to the Tampa, Fla. area during the Republican National Convention, to be held August 26 to 30, can expect to be confronted with security restrictions similar to a Super Bowl TFR, including a 10-mile-radius “no fly zone” and the need to use gateway airports in nearby Sarasota and Orlando for security screening for flights inbound to Tampa International Airport.
Tampa International Jet Center (TIJC) opens its doors this month at Tampa International Airport (TPA), providing competition for Raytheon Aircraft Services, which had been the sole operator on the airport.
Tampa International Jet Center (TIJC) at Tampa International Airport has upgraded its crew cars to include an X-Type Jaguar and Ford Mustang convertible. Mike Azzarelli, president of TIJC, said, “We appreciate the fact that pilots don’t want to hang around the FBO all day, so we felt we should provide them a classy way to enjoy some of the great attractions the Tampa area has to offer.”
