Major helicopter manufacturers here in Paris are eagerly awaiting the expected release next month of a U.S. Air Force request for proposal (RFP) for a combat search-and-rescue helicopter to replace some 100 aging Sikorsky HH-60Gs. The RFP is expected to request 141 personnel recovery vehicles (PRVs) at a value of about $10 billion, with initial entry into service in 2011.
The Canadian government would like to acquire 16 more military helicopters for troop and cargo transport, but has so far determined that only the Boeing CH-47 Chinook meets its requirements. Other potential bidders have 30 days to show they have an aircraft that could meet these requirements. Deliveries of the aircraft are to begin within 36 months of contract signing.
Honeywell is at Heli-Expo 2006 (Booth No. 1907) with announcements that its enhanced VXP health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) for rotorcraft will be installed on an operator’s Boeing helicopter fleet and available as an OEM option on the Eurocopter EC 135.
