Sabreliner NA-265-80, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Feb. 1, 2008–Depletion of pressure in the aircraft’s hydraulic system, along with the pilot’s failure to operate the emergency braking system properly, was to blame for a taxiing accident that damaged three other airplanes, according to the NTSB. A non-functioning hydraulic system aural warning in the aircraft was also found to be a contributing factor.

Cessna Citation 550, Reading, Pa., Aug. 3, 2008– While landing at Reading Regional Airport/Carl A. Spatz Field, following a Part 91 positioning flight from Pottstown, Pa., the Citation II/SP was substantially damaged when it struck a mowing tractor during roll-out. According to the tower controller on duty at the time, the Citation crew contacted him at eight miles out and was issued clearance to land on Runway 31.
Sabreliner NA-265-80, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Feb. 1, 2008–While taxiing the Sabreliner from the repair station–following a months-long stay for corrosion repairs–the pilots attempted to maneuver around a Cessna Caravan that had stopped, facing it on the same ramp. As it passed, the Sabreliner’s left wing struck the Caravan’s rotating propeller, causing damage to both aircraft.
Under a memorandum of understanding signed at last June’s Paris airshow, IAI is working with Airbus to develop a semi-robotic tractor called Taxibot, which tows an aircraft from the airport gate to the take off point and gets it to the gate after landing. This means that aircraft don’t have to run their engines to taxi, thereby reducing pollution, noise and fuel costs.
Cessna Citation 680 Sovereign, Los Angeles, Nov. 11, 2008–According to the Board, the night-time collision between a NetJets Sovereign and a ground service vehicle was the result of the vehicle driver’s failure to maintain adequate clearance/distance from the taxiing airplane.
Cessna 560 Citation Encore, Kremmling, Colo., Aug. 24, 2009–A ground maintenance worker was seriously injured as the NetJets twinjet exited the fueling depot on the ramp apron. According to reports, the lineman was knocked over by the jet blast and sustained a broken leg, as the Encore was taxiing to depart McElroy Airfield.
Hawker Beechcraft King Air 200, Henderson, Nev., March 22, 2009–The twin turboprop, operated by Southern Nevada Jet Charter, collided with a tree while taxiing after a dusk landing at Henderson Executive Airport.
On June 18 a Learjet 40XR suffered severe damage at Fort Worth’s Meacham International Airport after an engine thrust control became stuck while taxiing during an engine run. According to airport manager Bill Welstead, the aircraft was throttled up while leaving Turbine Engine Specialists when the technicians noted that the engine control on the left engine was stuck.
