The newest phase of the FAA’s NextGen airspace redesign, tagged the “North Texas Metroplex” project, took effect September 18 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with the addition of a number of new arrival and departure procedures. The new procedures replace the older standard terminal arrival routes (Stars) and standard instrument departures (SIDs) at Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW) and Dallas Love Field (DAL) airports.
Advent Aerospace of Rye, N.H., has named Harvey Ticlo senior vice president for corporate strategy, business development and integration. Ticlo was formerly president of the company’s Cabin Innovations division, located in Lewisville, Texas. Steve Jourdenais was named senior vice president for the Interiors Group, consisting of the Cabin Innovations and Jormac Aerospace divisions, and will be responsible for operations at both. Jourdenais was previously president of Jormac Aerospace, located in Largo, Fla.
StandardAero Business Aviation received FAA Satellite Repair Station authorization for its new satellite facility at Houston Hobby (HOU) Airport. The company launched the new repair station last June to supplement its facility at George Bush International (IAH).
EagleMed has installed an automated weather observing system at Eagle Pass, Texas, that will allow the air medical operator’s fixed-wing aircraft to serve patients in the San Antonio region during inclement weather. EagleMed bases a King Air C90 at San Marcos, Texas, to serve the Eagle Pass area. The new weather system will also serve EagleMed’s sister companies, AirEvac Lifeteam and Reach, which base medically outfitted helicopters at Eagle Pass, Pearsall, Carrizo Springs and Laredo.
Backed with cash from Asian investors, the relaunched Mooney International has spent the last eight months hiring staff at both its Kerrville, Texas production plant and its new Chino, Calif. headquarters and R&D center. The company now employs 150 and recently completed its first aircraft–an M20TN Acclaim Type S–since the new investors took control. That aircraft was the first new Mooney off the production line in Kerrville in five years. It was sold via auction and delivered to the customer’s representative on Tuesday at EAA AirVenture 2014.
Fractional aircraft ownership firm Executive AirShare hired industry veteran Pete Pedicino as regional vice president of sales for Dallas and South Texas. In his new role, Pedicino “will drive Executive AirShare’s growth in key Texas markets.” The company now serves customers in Houston, San Antonio and Austin, and has served customers in Dallas and Fort Worth since 2006. Pedicino has spent the past 14 years in the fractional aircraft ownership industry, most recently as senior vice president of sales with NetJets.
The first Bell 525 Relentless super-medium twin helicopter is moving closer to final assembly at Bell Helicopter’s plant in Amarillo, Texas. Matt Hasik, Bell’s senior vice president of commercial programs, told AIN that the three main cabin sections will be joined within the next few weeks. He also said that the first carbon-fiber, all-composite main rotor blade for the 525 has been completed and is undergoing testing.
Flight-test operations have begun at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) test site, which last week became the fourth operational site of six authorized in the U.S. by the FAA. The agency granted the university a two-year certificate of authorization (COA) to fly the 85-pound American Aerospace Advisors’ Recon System-16, based on the Arcturus T-16XL fixed-wing aircraft.
While Houston Hobby Airport hosts thousands of business aviation flights each year, I wonder how many of the crews transiting the airport are aware of the old Municipal Airport Terminal? It’s something that I didn’t know still existed until a trip to Houston earlier this year, for the opening of the new Million Air FBO/company headquarters. Driving on Telephone Road on the west side of the airport, I noticed the white art-deco wedding cake-shaped building set back from the street, along with a few signs advertising it as the 1940 Air Terminal Museum.
