Aviation Specialties Unlimited (ASU, Booth 1478) of Boise, Idaho unveiled its new microgimbal camera at the NBAA show in Orlando. The Owls, for observation wide-area, low-altitude sensor, is designed for surveillance, reconnaissance and target detection from lightweight UAVs and it can also be fitted to manned aircraft.
Securaplane, part of the Meggitt family, is displaying its current line of airborne cameras and integrated ground security systems, along with prototypes of improved products at its NBAA booth (No. N4527).
Securaplane’s wireless-controlled cameras are easily retrofitable, according to Steffen Spell, vice president of sales, marketing and customer service for the Tucson, Ariz.-based company. In fact, the cameras still need wiring for power but they can tap into power wires already installed for wingtip and empennage lights, for example.
L-3 Cincinnati Electronics says that its new NightWarrior 640 mid-wave infrared imaging system is a major technical advance. Designed for carriage by unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) and other small applications, the camera is five times smaller and lighter than previous MWIR systems, and draws four times less power, according to the maker.

Bell’s Aeronautical Accessories brand will distribute the TrueView Enhanced Visions Systems infrared thermal imaging system worldwide. It is currently certified via supplemental type certificate in the U.S. and Canada for the Bell 206B and 206L. TrueView is developing systems for the Bell 407 and 429.
Israeli sensor specialist Controp Precision Technologies (Hall 3 C17) is displaying a range of its advanced electro-optic/infrared/laser payloads, including several new products. The latest payloads are tailored for use with UAVs, and also for aerostat applications.
