A preliminary factual report released today by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau recounts a laudable effort on the part of the five-member flight crew to land the Qantas A380 stricken by the uncontained failure of one of its Rolls-Royce Trent 900 turbofans over the Indonesian island of Batam on November 4.

Cessna Citation 550, Manteo, N.C., Oct. 1, 2010–After landing at Dare County Regional Airport at the end of a Part 91 flight from Tampa, Fla., the Citation II was substantially damaged when it ­skidded off the end of Runway 23 and came to rest in Croatan Sound. According to witnesses, the twinjet made a steep approach on ­landing and touched down with 2,100 feet of runway remaining.

Hubbard Aviation Technologies has made a major commitment to its Stage 3-certified QS3 hush-kit program for the Gulfstream GII, GIISP, GIIB and GIII. The program was originally launched by Stage III Technologies, which received an FAA supplemental type certificate (STC) in December 2003 for the modification but went out of business in February 2008.

The twinjet skidded for approximately 960 feet and incurred substantial damage to the lower fuselage before coming to a stop on the runway near Taxiway C.
