Socata’s C2 version of the TBM 700 turboprop single received FAA certification on March 17. The latest version of the six-passenger aircraft was originally due to complete the U.S. approval process last fall. The $2.65 million TBM 700C2 offers a 12-percent increase in mtow and incorporates 20-g seats, strengthened wheels and 10-ply tires.

The rejected takeoff of a Boeing 777 at approximately 160 knots results in the landing gear absorbing more than one billion joules of energy in a few seconds, according to research recently done by Messier-Bugatti. To put this number in perspective, consider it as the equivalent of supplying energy to the average house (lamps, outdoor lights, refrigerator, television, computer and other appliances) for about 18 hours.

GATES LEARJET 25B, COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO., SEPT. 4, 2004–Both tires blew when Learjet N47MR was taking off from Colorado Springs Airport. The Part 135 Lifeguard flight was flown by an ATP pilot. The airplane was substantially damaged but none of the four people on board was injured.

Prices of another 2,700 Gulfstream spare parts have been cut as of late last month. This is in addition to the 7,000 parts for which Gulfstream has already lowered prices since April 2002. The new price reductions apply to parts such as tires, wheels, washers, light bulbs, actuators, windows and windshields. Gulfstream includes a one year/1,000-hour warranty on all parts.

Boeing has selected Crane Aerospace & Electronics (Hall 5, Stand A20) to supply tire- and brake-monitoring (TBMS) and AirWeighs onboard weight-and-balance systems for Model 777 aircraft. Deliveries of TBMS-equipped aircraft began last month, while AirWeighs, which is to be a standard production-line fit on 777F cargo variants, will enter service when deliveries begin in late 2008.

Authorized service centers for Michelin Aircraft Tire are running an incentive program called “Upgrade to Michelin,” which offers an instant 20-percent rebate to customers who convert all the main landing-gear tires on their aircraft from a competitive brand to Michelins. Piaggio Avanti, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., March 20, 2007–The Avanti, operated by fractional operator Avantair, was substantially damaged when landing at Hollywood International Airport, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The ATP-rated first officer was flying the airplane, on approach to Runway 9R, at 120 knots.
