Tocumen International Airport

ASIG Panamá expanded its services in Panama at the beginning of this month, launching aircraft fueling services at Albrook “Marcos A. Gelbert” International Airport on October 1. As operator of the airport’s sole fuel facility, the company provides fueling service for all general aviation and domestic commercial flights at the airport.

Signature Flight Support broke ground late last week on the first FBO at Panama’s Tocumen International Airport. The new 7,000-sq-ft facility, which is expected to open late next year, will include a customer lobby, pilot’s lounge, in-house customs and immigration facilities and dedicated customer parking. However, a Signature spokesman said the location will not include any hangars.

Israel Aircraft Industries 1124 Westwind, Tocumen, Panama, July 2, 2004–Westwind N280AT, operated by Air Trek as a Part 135 air ambulance flight, crashed into a building shortly after takeoff from the Tocumen International Airport. The airplane was destroyed and all six occupants were killed. A seventh person on the ground was also killed. VMC prevailed, and an IFR flight plan had been filed.
