Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hong Kong-based aircraft lease and maintenance company ANI Group Holdings covering a firm order for five of its new MRJ regional jets. ANI Group currently leases aircraft to five Indonesian airlines.

Pratt & Whitney completed assembly of the first PurePower PW1217G engine to test for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), the company announced in late March. The engine manufacturer planned to send the engine, rated at 17,000 pounds of thrust, to its West Palm Beach, Fla. facility to start testing last month. Pratt & Whitney held the so-called MRJ “last bolt ceremony” at its Middletown Engine Center in Connecticut on March 24.

Assembly work on the Mitsubishi Regional Jet officially began today with a ceremonial rivet-driving celebration at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Tobishima plant, MHI and Mitsubishi Aircraft jointly announced today. MHI riveters began work on the frame structure of an MRJ90, driving rivets into an area surrounding the emergency escape hatch in the roof of the aircraft’s cockpit.

Pratt & Whitney completed assembly of the first PurePower PW1217G engine to test for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), the company announced today. The engine, rated at 17,000 pounds of thrust, is the third PurePower PW1000G series engine to complete assembly. It will go to Pratt & Whitney’s West Palm Beach, Fla., facility to initiate testing.

The sides finalized and executed the so-called definitive purchase agreement on December 27, almost 15 months after TSH signed a letter of intent to become the first U.S.

Mitsubishi has tried not to let lackluster sales tarnish an efficiently run development campaign for the MRJ regional jet, the first metal for which workers cut during a ceremony in Nagoya, Japan, last week. As promised, the program passed its detailed design reviews by the end of the summer.

Mitsubishi’s Regional Jet is entering the production drawing phase, which could signal the beginning of parts production for the new jet. Mitsubishi completed the design review for the MRJ last week, and the company is proceeding with the production drawing phase, which will include more detailed parts design. The company says the MRJ is on track and Mitsubishi has laid out the development schedule.

The time for refinements to the Mitsubishi MRJ has nearly passed, as Mitsubishi Aircraft expects to freeze the regional jet’s design within the next two months. The company has frozen all the interfaces between the various systems and the structural components, both in the 88-seat MRJ90, scheduled for Japanese certification in late 2013, and the 76-seat MRJ70, which would likely gain its certification roughly a year later.

SIA Engineering (SIAEC) has signed an agreement to participate in Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower PW1000G engine risk-revenue sharing program (RRSP) with a 3-percent stake in the Bombardier C Series engine program and a 1-percent stake in the Mitsubishi Regional Jet engine program.
