Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker believes the only way to solve the growing ATC congestion problems in the Middle East is to develop a single air traffic management system similar to Eurocontrol’s Single European Sky concept. Qatar is among several countries in the region searching for a congestion solution to support regional airline expansion plans.
The Eastern Region Helicopter Council (ERHC) has issued a new statement critical of an anticipated mandatory North Shore Route off the shore of Long Island, N.Y. The group said the route would “exacerbate air traffic congestion and make helicopter noise permanent over some communities.”

solutions to the serious congestion and delay problems at New York La Guardia
The FAA announced a two-year extension of the existing lottery allocation of slot exemptions at New York La Guardia Airport (LGA) until Oct. 31, 2004. In addition, the FAA is asking for public comment on proposed changes to the current procedures for allocating slot exemptions that are either returned or have gone unused.
Hoping to avoid a repeat of the congestion delays that have plagued users of its Swift64 aero satcom data network, Inmarsat plans to limit use of its forthcoming SwiftBroadband service by business jet passengers. Users will be allowed access to just two channels of SwiftBroadband at a time, the company said, providing passengers with maximum download connection speeds of 864 kilobits per second.
