The Star Alliance has set a new target of 2015 for Air India to join its ranks following a unanimous vote by member airlines to restart the process of integrating the Indian flag carrier. The alliance suspended integration in 2011 on grounds that Air India had “not met minimum joining conditions agreed in December 2007.” With signs of stability and fleet rationalization, however, Star has agreed to give Air India a second chance.

Business aircraft traffic in Europe last month climbed by 2.4 percent year-over-year, logging 42,623 departures, according to the latest data from Hamburg, Germany-based WingX Advance. “This was a welcome change to declines through most of the year, with 2013 activity down 2 percent overall from 2012,” it said.

Greenpoint Technologies, a Kirkland, Wash.-based aircraft completions center for Boeing Business Jets, signed a second private Boeing 787 completion contract. It won its first 787 completion contract, for an undisclosed customer, last month. The center has been preparing for its first 787 interior outfitting project for the past seven years, sending teams to attend Boeing symposiums and to study the aircraft’s systems and composite fuselage structure.

FAA spokesman Les Dorr, in a Poynter story about a journalist’s use of a radio-controlled aircraft to film airborne video, once again publicly stated the FAA’s claim that commercial use of radio-controlled aircraft is prohibited. The Spokane, Wash.,-based Spokesman-Review ran the journalist’s video of a polar-bear swim event on its website.

The second A350 XWB flight-test aircraft, MSN3, has arrived in Bolivia to perform a series of tests at the high-altitude airfields of Cochabamba and La Paz. Cochabamba lies around 8,300 feet above sea level, and La Paz ranks as one of the world’s highest airports at 13,300 feet.

U.S. Coast Guard C-27J

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) will acquire through an intra-service transfer 14 Alenia Aermacchi C-27J Spartans that the U.S. Air Force planned to store. Congress directed the transfer in the Fiscal Year 2014 defense authorization bill, which President Obama signed on December 26.
