Vilnius, Lithuania-based FL Technics has been accepted as a member of the European Aviation Maintenance Training Committee, a Netherlands-based non-profit association that comprises various aviation maintenance training organizations from Europe and other parts of the world.
FlightSafety International completed the first line and base maintenance course for the Rolls-Royce BR725 offered at its Learning Center in Savannah, Ga.
Part parent company ARC Aerospace Industries recently acquired a majority interest in Maxair Ventures of Tucson, Ariz. Under the terms of the acquisition agreement, Maxair Ventures will be providing Part with logistical support, along with the remarketing of ARC’s surplus parts inventories. Currently ARC owns parts inventories from Boeing 767s, 757s, 747s and 737s already torn down. This month ARC purchased a Boeing 737-400 and a 767-200 for teardown and parts distribution.
Spirit Aeronautics, based in Columbus, Ohio, has named Jerry MacDonald as an aircraft production supervisor. His 36 years of work experience includes stints with Owens Corning, SSK Industries and GE Aircraft Engines, where he held positions with varying levels of responsibility and authority. MacDonald holds a master’s degree in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minor in meteorology from Purdue University. He is a licensed FAA A&P mechanic with inspection authorization.
GippsAero, the Australia-based aircraft manufacturer owned by India’s Mahindra Aerospace, introduced a new executive interior option for its seven-seat GA8 Airvan today at the Sun ’n’ Fun Fly-In in Lakeland, Fla. One of the two Airvans it is displaying this week at the show has the executive cabin option.
Cessna Aircraft subsidiary McCauley Propeller Systems is displaying its new Blackmac Carbon Series constant-speed propeller at this year’s Sun ’n’ Fun fly-in event in Lakeland, Fla. The world’s largest full-line propeller manufacturer expects to receive FAA certification in the first half of the year for the clean-sheet scalable design that features composite materials and uses a patented high-strength, low-weight continuous carbon loop blade retention system to reduce weight and improve product life.
Horizon Air plans to start serving communities in Alaska on March 3 with its latest tranche of Bombardier Q400s. The airline intends to use three Q400s, including the 51st in its fleet, to connect Anchorage with Fairbanks and Kodiak. Bombardier and Horizon Air celebrated delivery of the airline’s 51st Q400 during a ceremony in late January in Portland, Ore., where Horizon employees gathered with airline CEO Glenn Johnson and a delegation of manufacturer representatives from Canada. The aircraft bears a special “people-powered” livery that includes the signatures of Horizon Air employees.

Never renowned for its ability to fast-track rulemaking, the FAA might be gunning for a new record.
It has been nearly a decade since the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) introduced an amendment to its aviation rulemaking to require member states to have certified international airports establish a safety management system (SMS). The FAA has said it supports harmonization of international standards and has worked to make U.S. aviation safety regulations consistent with ICAO standards and recommended practices.
Austria-based engine manufacturer Rotax (Booth SE-014) has always been, at its roots, about performance and efficiency. After delivering 49,000 Rotax 912 water-cooled, 4-stroke Rotax 912 engines in the past 25 years the company is expanding the engine’s performance window once again with the introduction of the 912iS Sport at Sun ‘n Fun 2014. Several engines have already been shipped to OEMs, and the engine can be found on a new Kitfox at the company’s booth here at the show.
