AAR recently completed the first heavy maintenance check at its new maintenance, repair and overhaul facility at Chennault International Airport in Lake Charles, La. The work was performed on an Airbus A330. AAR occupies approximately 520,000 sq ft of service and administrative space at the facility, including eight hangar bays, seven of which can accommodate widebody aircraft. Construction of a 112,000-sq-ft hangar that can accommodate aircraft as large as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8 is under way and expected to be completed next summer.
Turkish Airlines Maintenance Center
Switzerland-based aviation maintenance and completion services firm Amac Aerospace has been granted Boeing 747-400 and 747-8 Part 145 approval, meaning that it can now provide base and line maintenance services on these types. The Boeing approvals come on the heels of Amac Aerospace gaining its European EASA Part 145 approval to undertake heavy base maintenance on the Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 and A340.
328 Design of Munich, Germany, and Turkish Technic of Istanbul have joined forces to work on cabin design jobs, the first of which is a Gulfstream IV major interior.
According to 328 Design, “The skills and experience of 328 Design’s aircraft interior engineers will be used to certify the designs and materials selected by Turkish Technic’s engineering group through an STC issued by 328 Design sister company AMDS.”
The newly renamed G280 (formerly G250) is on schedule to enter service later this year, after certification by the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI), then EASA and the FAA. The first production G280 was delivered to Gulfstream’s completion center in Dallas in early August for interior outfitting and paint.
The EASA has approved Amac Aerospace Switzerland to perform line and base maintenance as well as interior refurbishments and modifications on the Global Express, Global Express XRS and Global 5000. The operation is also certified for base and line maintenance on the Gulfstream large-cabin series, Airbus A320 single-aisle series, Boeing BBJ series and line maintenance for the Boeing (McDonnell Douglas)MD-80 series.
Brazilian airline TAM’s Technological Center in San Carlos, Brazil, has received EASA 145 approval to maintain the Airbus A321 and A330. TAM Technological Center is now certified to perform maintenance on the Airbus line through the A330 as well as on the Fokker 100. Brazil’s government aeronautical materials department also has approved TAM Technological Center to maintain the presidential Airbus ACJ.
The Hangar, an aircraft maintenance and repair facility located on the Panola County Airport in Batesville, Miss., has recently been approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to perform component repair and overhaul for non-U.S.-based companies.
