Leipzig-based Volga-Dnepr Technics (VDT), the division responsible for Volga-Dnepr Group’s maintenance operations in Europe, has expanded its maintenance capability on Western-built aircraft. VDT’s EASA Part 145 certificate enables the MRO to extend A-check services on the Boeing 737-300/-400/-500, 747-8F and 747-400 (PW4000-powered). The company’s EASA Rating C14 has also been expanded to cover wheel and brake repair shop activities on a number of 747 variants.

“In 2014 we aim to reach…C-check capability on Western aircraft,” said VDT managing director Ildar Ilyasov.

Despite a challenging economic climate, business aviation is finding its footing in Russia, as some 8,000 visitors attended JetExpo at Moscow’s Vnukovo-3 last month. This year’s event attracted 100 exhibitors, with 25 airplanes and seven helicopters on the static display.

Eclipse Aviation announced on September 23 that the Russian state bank Vnesheconombank (VEB) supervisory board, chaired by Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin, has approved the construction of a factory in Ulyanovsk, Russia, to assemble Eclipse 500s for the European and Russian markets.

Eclipse Aviation (Booth No. 7463) has received permission from the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) to export the Eclipse 500 very light jet and its components to Russia, and has also received Canadian approval for the export of the aircraft’s Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610F engines.

Eclipse Aviation and its investor/European distributor, Etirc Aviation, yesterday said the team is making progress toward establishing an Eclipse 500 manufacturing facility in Russia, a development that was announced last month when Etirc disclosed it was providing more than $100 million for the very light jet program.
