FAA airworthiness directive AD 2014-16-21, effective October 2, will require operators of Dassault Falcon 7X trijets to replace certain pintle pins in the left- and right-hand main landing gear. The agency found that some pintle pins in the Messier-Bugatti-Dowty landing gear had been incorrectly corrosion-protected, which could cause them to shear under normal load and lead to collapse during takeoff or landing.
The FAA has issued a superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) for the Bombardier Challenger CL-600-1A11 (CL-600), CL-600-2A12 (CL-601), and CL-600-2B16 (CL-601-3A, CL-601-3R and CL-604). It requires operators to assign serial numbers or part numbers to certain landing-gear parts; establish the number of landings on the parts, if necessary; and revise the Airworthiness Limitations Section of the Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA).
On the ground roll for a touch-and-go landing during a training flight at Prestwick, Scotland, a takeoff configuration warning sounded on an Airbus A320, prompting the captain to abort the takeoff. The UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch said that although the aircraft stopped on the runway remaining, the crew did not realize the aircraft had suffered nosewheel damage during the maneuver and hence began another takeoff, with the first officer acting as the pilot flying.
Elliott Aviation, an authorized service center for the Beechjet/Hawker 400XP, has acquired multiple sets of Beechjet/Hawker 400XP landing gear. The landing gear will be used for exchange purposes to ensure minimal aircraft downtime during overhaul. Elliott Aviation’s accessory shop has overhauled multiple sets of Beechjet/Hawker 400XP landing gear and completed some 20 trunnion repairs. Elliott Aviation has completed 250 full landing-gear overhauls, 350 actuator overhauls, 500 brake assemblies, 500 wheels and 1,400 NDT inspections.
The 123 Go program is AV8 MRO’s flat-rate plan that offers operators choices in pricing methods and turn times when having their Hawker landing gear repaired, overhauled or exchanged. Operators who choose to have their landing gear serviced at AV8 MRO can pick the service needed–repair, overhaul or exchange–and then select their preferred pricing method, including actual labor/material cost, time/material cost with “not to exceed amount” or a flat rate.

As engines have become ever quieter, the aerodynamic noise created by disturbed airflow around the aircraft itself makes up an increasing proportion of the overall noise signature.

Two Fokker 100s were involved in accidents on May 10. The first, operated by Iran Aseman Airlines, was damaged in a landing accident at Zahedan Airport (ZAH) in Iran when the aircraft’s left main landing gear failed to extend before it touched down on Runway 35. In the other, an IRS Airlines Fokker 100 operating a post-C-check ferry flight sustained substantial damage during a forced landing in the Ganla area of Niger. That airplane’s right main landing gear and nose gear collapsed during landing. Injuries in both accidents were not reported.

Crane Aerospace and Electronics has announced that its SmartStem wireless tire pressure system has been certified for use with Boeing 737NG aircraft. It is already approved for use with the Boeing 747-400, 777 and 787, and with numerous business jet types. The system comprises high-accuracy sensors that replace standard wheel fill stems, and a handheld reader that takes quick and accurate tire pressure readouts without gas loss. The ease and speed of use of the system promotes daily checks, with improved safety as a result, and an increase in tire life.
