Mecaer Aviation is to design and manufacture the landing gear system for Bell Helicopters’s new 525 Relentless twin. The Italian company, which already provides landing gear for the existing 429 model, will be responsible for engineering, system integration, and the production of a complete ‘bolt-on’ system, comprising nose and main gears, electro-mechanical actuation, the braking system, wheels, tires and control panel. Mecaer also provides landing gear for AgustaWestland.
Constant Aviation has opened a new landing-gear repair and overhaul facility at its Birmingham, Ala. location. The facility will begin servicing Beechjet 400A/XP landing gear and expand to include the Embraer Legacy 600 and Hawker 800A/XP in the coming months.

Italy’s Mecaer Aviation Group (MAG) has become the exclusive tier-one supplier to Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) for the complete landing system for Hurkus, Turkey’s new primary and basic trainer aircraft. MAG will be responsible for engineering system integration, hydraulic steering system hydraulic actuation, braking system, brakes, tires and landing gear cockpit controls for the tandem-configured Hurkus.
British Airways has chosen Crane’s enhanced landing gear control interface unit (LGCIU), which has been standard fit on Airbus A320 family aircraft since October 2010, for its A320 fleet upgrade. The LGCIU provides system health status to the central fault display system, sensing the position of the landing gear and landing gear doors, flap disconnect status and cargo door position.
An All Nippon (ANA) Boeing 767 was substantially damaged, possibly after a windshear encounter, during a hard landing June 20 on runway 16 Right at Tokyo-Narita Airport (RJAA). The aircraft had just arrived from Beijing-Capital Airport (ZBAA) with 193 people on board.
The FAA has approved the Sikorsky S-92 for sea state 6 (SS6) conditions, meaning up to 20-foot waves. Thanks to additional sponson floats, the S-92’s emergency flotation system becomes the first one to be FAA certified for SS6, according to Sikorsky.
“This system was designed by the S-92 landing-gear design group, with close coordination with electrical and airframe design and structural analysis,” said Ben Del Monte, chief of propulsion/landing gear/mission systems.
The FAA is adopting an Airworthiness Directive (AD 2012-08-11) for certain Bombardier Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft, to alleviate potential landing gear issues. The problems were identified during testing, which showed that failure of a retract-port, flexible hose on the main-landing-gear actuator could result in excessive leakage of hydraulic fluid.
