Signature Flight Support owner BBA Aviation announced that it is buying seven FBOs from Hawker Beechcraft, including a facility at busy and highly competitive Van Nuys Airport. The deal is valued at $128.5 million. BBA is buying HBC’s line and fuel operations in Atlanta; Houston and San Antonio; Indianapolis; Tampa, Fla.; Van Nuys, Calif.; and Wichita, but HBC is retaining its maintenance operations at those facilities.

Maguire Aviation, which bought the former Petersen Aviation FBO at Van Nuys Airport in Southern California in 2006 and more recently the airport’s Million Air FBO, is planning to buy Skytrails Aviation, an FBO on the southeast corner of the airport. After the deal closes, Maguire’s total spending on leasehold acquisitions and infrastructure improvements at Van Nuys should reach more than $250 million during the next three years.

Sentient Jet Holdings has continued its pattern of aggressive growth with the purchase of Van Nuys, Calif.-based The Air Group. While the terms of the deal were undisclosed, a source familiar with the transaction told AIN that the agreement will bring more than 20 additional aircraft under Sentient management, as well as increase Sentient’s visibility in the bustling Southern California market.

With the Van Nuys Airport (VNY), Calif., master plan in political limbo, officials at the nation’s busiest general aviation airport have come up with a temporary proposal that could help shepherd development at the airport until the final roadmap is in place. The temporary proposal sets aside 50 acres for piston-powered aircraft–similarly to the way the master plan aimed to preserve space for light aircraft.

Up-and-coming FBO company Maguire Aviation is now the largest leaseholder at Van Nuys Airport in Southern California, having bought the former Million Air FBO in early October. Maguire purchased Petersen Aviation on the south side of the airport a year earlier and recently added the former Disney (Air Shamrock) hangar on the west side of the airport.

XtraJet, a Santa Monica, Calif.-based charter firm, has become the second operator to be sued by the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners for allegedly committing repeated violations of the noise restrictions at Van Nuys Airport (VNY). Earlier, the board filed a similar suit against charter operator Pacific Jet. The Pacific Jet case is awaiting assignment of a trial date.

• The Los Angeles board of airport commissioners has authorized airport staff members to begin advertising for qualified companies to perform Part 161 noise mitigation studies for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys Airport (VNY). The separate studies are not expected to be completed for three to five years.
