Viking Air delivered the first Viking Twin Otter Series 400 equipped with a custom executive interior from Wipaire of South Saint Paul, Minn., to an undisclosed customer. Wipaire is an authorized Viking service center that offers maintenance, repair, VIP cabin completions and painting services. The Wipaire-outfitted aircraft features an executive club-four seating arrangement with an additional 12 standard seats. It is also equipped with Wipline 13000 amphibious floats and features an aquatic-themed custom airbrushed graphical paint scheme.
Viking Air of Victoria, British Columbia, will use the Avtrak GlobalNet platform to support its Viking MX factory maintenance tracking program. According to Viking, the system allows operators to easily plan, track and schedule maintenance activities, maintain regulatory compliance, and work closely with the OEM in monitoring overall aircraft systems reliability. It can also track all of an operator’s aircraft with a single system.

Canadian company Viking Air and Moscow-based Vityaz Avia Corp. have signed a memorandum of understanding for the potential development of a final assembly facility in eastern Russia for the new Twin Otter 400.
Canada’s Viking Air has sold 10 of its Twin Otter Series 400 turboprops to Global Aerospace Logistics of Abu Dhabi. The agreement, which represents the largest order to date, calls for delivery of six landplane-configured DHC-6 Series 400s and four Guardian Twin Otter floatplanes, slated for use throughout the United Arab Emirates in both government and commercial applications.
Viking Air of Sidney, British Columbia, flew its DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 400 prototype for the first time on October 1 from Victoria International Airport.
Two more OEMs–Spectrum Aeronautical and Viking Air– have selected Honeywell’s Primus Apex avionics suite. Spectrum selected Apex for its S-40 Freedom midsize jet and Viking Air for the resurrected DHC-6-400 Twin Otter. This brings to four the number of airplanes that will feature the Primus Apex suite, the other two being Grob’s SPn and the new Pilatus PC-12 NG, which is the first Primus Apex-equipped airplane to enter service.
Some two months after announcing the relaunch of 19-seat Twin Otter production, Canada’s Viking Aerospace has begun cutting metal on the first unit at its final assembly plant in Calgary. Scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2009 to Zurich’s Zimex Aviation, the first Twin Otter 400 will look virtually identical to the operator’s “legacy” Twin Otter 300s.
