Frasca International (Booth 3073) last month received level-D approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China for the Cessna Citation CJ1+ full flight simulator delivered to the country’s Nanshan International Flight Academy. The simulator features Frasca’s Simplicity Instructor Operator Station software, a 60-inch electric motion base, CANbus interface system, Griffon real-time true operating environment and TruFeel electric control loading. It was recently installed at the Nanshan facility at Longkou.
For pilots needing to obtain an airline transport pilot (ATP) certificate, Sporty’s (Booth 1357) has developed an FAA-approved ATP certification training program (ATP-CTP). Sporty’s partnered with ABX Airlines in Wilmington, Ohio, for the simulator portion of the training.
An innovation in personal computer-based flight simulation–a shared cockpit between two people flying their simulators in separate locations–is now available on the X-Plane simulator running the PilotEdge live ATC system. FlightSafety International’s third Gulfstream G650 full-motion simulator is now online at its learning center in Long Beach, Calif., following FAA level-D approval for the device. The first two Gulfstream G650 simulators are in service at FlightSafety’s learning center in Savannah, Ga. Notably, this new G650 trainer is the first FlightSafety FS1000 simulator to receive level-D qualification. FS1000 simulators have FlightSafety’s newest Vital 1100 visual system, electric motion cueing and a new instructor operating station.

An acquisitive Textron has assembled a new flight simulator manufacturing and training company–TRU Simulation + Training–that its leaders believe will offer strong competition to entrenched players FlightSafety International and CAE. TRU’s president and CEO is James Takats, one of the founders of Florida-based simulator manufacturer Opinicus, which became a Textron property in November last year.
Helicopter training simulator provider X-Copter is on hand at EAA AirVenture 2014 in Oshkosh, Wis., to demonstrate its recently certified primary flight simulator. Located at AirVenture’s HAI Heli-Center, the Arizona-based company is offering show specials of more than $7,500 in incentives for the lease or purchase of the new training device, which has a base price of $88,000.
