Aircraft leasing magnate Steven Udvar-Hazy will be awarded this year’s Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy, for “innovative aerospace business practices, improved aircraft design, piloting skills and selfless philanthropy, ensuring preservation of our aerospace history.” Udvar-Hazy’s multimillion-dollar donation allowed the construction of the National Air and Space Museum’s annex at Dulles Airport.

Signature Flight Support and Avcard have implemented a contract fuel discount program at Signature FBOs in the U.S. The program started with Signature FBOs in Boston (Logan and Hanscom Field), Teterboro, White Plains, Washington Dulles and Miami. The remainder of the Signature network was expected to join the Avcard program shortly thereafter, with the exception of the Signature San Francisco and Washington, D.C. locations.
Dulles Jet Center, an Arcadia Aviation company, is providing aircraft maintenance services on Dulles International Airport (IAD). It also offers aircraft management and charter sales. The facility is an FAA Part 145 repair station.

According to the association, there will be one or more TFRs issued that will restrict general aviation aircraft operations in the D.C. area.

Consolidation of five terminal radar approach control facilities into the new Potomac Tracon, located in Vint Hill, Va., is now complete. The facility incorporates Tracons previously located at Washington Dulles International, Ronald Reagan Washington National, Baltimore-Washington International and Richmond International airports, as well as Andrews Air Force Base.
Phil Garfinkle has nothing to fear but the lack of fear itself. Garfinkle founded Executive Private Aircraft Corporation (EPAC) to fan airline customers’ fears of traveling with unknown passengers, and their impatience and growing aversion to airport security checks. The EPAC mission is to provide “members with safe, convenient and value-oriented private air travel in a country-club environment.”
A Washington Airports Task Force (WATF) survey last November showed that 90 percent of residents living close to Washington Dulles Airport (IAD) are regular air travelers and 87 percent considered the airport to be a neighborhood asset. In its August newsletter, the non-profit, pro-aviation coalition contrasted its efforts with those of Dallas/Fort Worth Airport (DFW) in Texas.

Bombardier Learjet 35, Washington, D.C., Sept. 13, 2007–At 3:13 a.m., the sole controller in the Washington Dulles International Airport tower instructed Learjet N66NJ to taxi into position and hold on Runway 19R, which was closed and unlit. The airplane was then cleared to take off on the 11,501-foot runway. The departure controller noticed the radar target and questioned the tower controller about the status of the runway.
