Three visitors here at the Georgia World Congress Center are wondering whether they’ll be the lucky one to leave with the classic 1959 Chris-Craft Capri Runabout power boat that TAC Air is set to award on tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Booth No. 805.
A satellite navigation backup study commissioned by the JPDO has given eLoran “the highest overall preference rating...particularly in the U.S.” Not yet publicly released, the 180-page document was prepared by ITT’s advanced engineering and sciences division and assessed seven candidates against a series of essential requirements. The candidates include DME/DME/INS; GNSS/INS; eLoran; VOR; “hardened” GNSS; terrain mapping; and multilateration.
Visitors to Tac Air FBOs can qualify for the chain’s annual NBAA giveaway contest, which features a rare Chris-Craft Capri runabout named Timeless. Customers can enter the drawing by visiting one of Tac Air’s 11 FBOs by August 15, and the company will select three lucky people to attend the NBAA show in Atlanta for final selection of the winner on September 26. Last year, Tac Air awarded the lucky winner a new Hummer H3.
Researchers from the U.S., Canada, Britain and France are participating in a major aircraft icing study taking place this winter primarily in the Montreal area. Canada’s National Research Council is leading the Alliance Icing Research Study with its Convair CV-580 in partnership with NASA’s DHC-6 Twin Otter.
The French ministries of transport and defense have planned a global navigation satellite system (GNSS)/Loran C user information day on July 1 in Paris. “The information day is open to any person who has an activity related to the use of positioning or timing/synchronization information,” said the organizers. Focus will be on Loran C as a complement of GNSS.
FlightSafety International and the Mayo Clinic have teamed to develop a new training program for hypoxia awareness. Under the contract, FlightSafety will install Mayo-designed training equipment at some of its learning centers.
International Water-Guard, a specialist in aircraft water treatment and water systems, has signed an agreement with UK-based Reheat International of Alton, Hampshire, for distribution and maintenance of its water-treatment products for European business aviation. “Business aviation is on a growth curve and we wanted to ensure maximum penetration of one of its largest regions,” said David Fox, president and CEO of International Water-Guard.
It’s one of the world’s more exclusive clubs, made up of pilots whose job in the growing world of luxury superyachts is helicopter operations.
No one seems to know exactly how many pilots are actively engaged in this calling, but best estimates put the number at barely 50, based on the fact that no more than 50 superyachts worldwide can support helicopter operations.
The end product may not be Perrier, but it’s just as tasty and just as clean. It’s what comes out of the business end of International Water Guard’s (IWG) ultraviolet water treatment units, and the Burnaby, B.C. company has just shipped its 1,000th unit.
