A federal jury has found William Hugh Weygandt, 64, of Granite Bay, Calif., guilty of a conspiracy to commit fraud involving aircraft parts repair. The verdict followed a three-week jury trial before U.S. District Court Eastern District of California. Weygandt is the former owner and president of Weco Aerospace Systems, an FAA FAR Part 145 repair station with facilities in Lincoln and Burbank, Calif. In January 2007, Weygandt sold Weco to Gulfstream Aerospace, which retained Weygandt as president until Feb. 1, 2008.

U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner announced a federal grand jury has returned a superseding indictment charging William Hugh Weygandt, 63, of Granite Bay, Calif., for conspiracy to commit fraud involving aircraft parts. Weygandt is the former owner and president of Weco Aerospace Systems, an FAA-certified repair station based in Lincoln, Calif., that was purchased in 2007 by Gulfstream Aerospace.

Freedom Aero Service, a new repair station founded by former Weco Aerospace Systems employees, received FAA certification on January 29. Freedom Aero offers helicopter and business jet electrical and electronic component and instrument repair and overhaul. The company plans to move to Sacramento-McClellan Airpark, where Freedom Aero has leased a 24,000-sq-ft former military repair facility.

The FAA has issued an unapproved parts notification for Weco Aerospace Systems of Burbank, Calif. The document cites hundreds of “aircraft components and instruments approved for return to service by Weco, Inc.” The company, acquired by Gulfstream Aerospace a year ago, was an FAA Part 145 and EASA repair station.

Weco Aerospace Systems, a privately held aviation-component overhaul company specializing in electrical, electronic accessories and flight instrument services, has been acquired by Gulfstream Aerospace. The business will retain the Weco name and become part of Gulfstream’s product support business. The purchase is expected to close by the end of the first quarter; financial details have not been disclosed.
