Two police officers in Atlanta, Ga., were killed November 3 when their Hughes OH-6A helicopter struck wires near the top of a 42-foot power pole and crashed. A post-crash fire destroyed the fuselage and cabin. The helicopter had departed Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson International Airport in support of a local search for a missing girl in night visual conditions about 20 minutes before the accident.

To honor the 60th anniversary of the National Business Aviation Association, a commemorative flight took place on Saturday, September 22, from New York, the show’s first site, to Atlanta, the home of this year’s event.

Investigation continues into an explosive device found on April 7 in a men’s lavatory outside a secure area in the atrium at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. According to Air Security International, a bomb squad detonated the device. The FBI described the device as “similar to a military trip flare containing a highly flammable substance” capable of causing “very serious injury to anyone handling or tampering with it.”
