Claiming that Williams International did not meet its “contractual obligations” and is “significantly behind schedule” in development of the EJ22 turbofan for the Eclipse 500 very light twinjet, Eclipse Aviation on November 27 disclosed it has dropped Williams and is negotiating with “two Fortune 100 engine suppliers.” Eclipse 500 certification is expected to be delayed significantly.
On September 10, Walled Lake, Mich.-based Williams International received FAA type certification of its new 1,568-pound-thrust FJ33-4A. The company will follow this milestone with the introduction of yet another turbofan engine.
Williams International of Walled Lake, Mich., expects to receive FAA certification soon for two of its new turbofan engines. U.S. approval is anticipated this quarter for the FJ33, a 1,200-pound-thrust engine that has been selected to power several very light jets still under development, including the Adam A700, Safire Jet, Diamond D-Jet and Aerostar FJ-100.
