Aviation Technology Group, the Colorado-based developer of the Javelin personal jet, and Israel Aircraft Industries have initiated detailed design work on two variants of the airplane intended to serve the world military training market.
Tbilisi Aircraft Manufacturing (TAM) has concluded an agreement with Oregon-based Epic Aircraft to license-build the Epic Jet and market it in East Europe. The all carbon fiber aircraft powered by two Williams FJ33 engines is scheduled to begin flight trials in the first quarter of next year, leading to certification in mid-2007.

Excel-Jet’s four-seat, single-engine very light jet, the Sport-Jet, flew for the first time this past weekend from Colorado Springs Airport. According to company president and founder Bob Bornhofen, as of yesterday the Sport-Jet had logged nearly four hours.
After operating below the radar for several years, Maverick Jets, now headquartered in Jackson, Wyo., revealed it is working on a next-generation Maverick Leader called the SmartJet. The five-seat, twin-turbofan, all-composite SmartJet has a planned mtow of 4,160 pounds, an empty weight of 2,150 pounds, a normal cruise speed of 277 knots at 22,000 feet and a max range of 1,250 nm.
Spanish Fort, Utah-based Spectrum Aeronautical also selected the new GE/Honda HF120 turbofan to power a proposed $6.2 million midsize business jet called the S-40 Freedom. The 2,050-pound-thrust engine is slated for certification in 2009. The S-40’s certification and first deliveries are “targeted for” 2010. Spectrum said it chose the Honda engine because it believes that the engine is more efficient than the Williams International FJ44.
On Tuesday at about 4:05 p.m. local time, the sole Spectrum 33 prototype crashed on the side of the runway while taking off from Spanish Fork Airport, Utah, on what was to be a routine test flight. Witnesses reported that the right wing hit the ground and the airplane cartwheeled, leaving a trail of debris before coming to rest in a pasture northwest of the airport.

Aviation Technology Group has added Goodrich Aircraft Interior Products, Kavlico, Moritz and Parker Aerospace to its list of suppliers for its Williams FJ33-powered Javelin business jet and derivatives. Under the terms of the contracts, Goodrich will supply pilot seats, Kavilco the throttle quadrant, Moritz the power distribution system and Parker the hydraulics.
