Raytheon Beech King Air 200, Joplin, Mo., Jan. 10, 2006–King Air N37GA made an emergency landing at Joplin after the pilot reported the windshield blew out. The landing was “without incident” and no injuries or damage to the aircraft were reported. The flight had left Joplin for Rochester, Mo.
Du Pont has introduced a wiping product that the diversified industrial company said is designed exclusively for aircraft windshields and passenger windows. Made from a proprietary blend of fibers, the company said its Sontara window wipes are intended to be used with approved cleaning solutions (such as Prist and Aviation Laboratory) on acrylic, polycarbonate and glass transparencies.
Bombardier CL600-2B19 CRJ, Asheville, N.C., March 19, 2006 – The NTSB found that company maintenance personnel improperly installed the pilot’s windshield on the Pinnacle Airlines jet, which resulted in flame and smoke in the cockpit and the subsequent emergency landing.

Perkins Aircraft Windows signed an agreement with CRS Jet Spares for that company to stock and distribute Perkins-manufactured windows and windshields. Airframes to be supported under the terms of the contract include the Beechjet, Challenger, Citation, Falcon, Gulfstream, Hawker and Learjet.
On February 2, Super King Air B200 N777AJ survived an uncontrolled descent and structural damage after the inner ply of the windshield cracked at 27,000 feet and the pilots depressurized the airplane and disconnected the autopilot. According to the NTSB, the crew was unable to use the oxygen system and evidently lost consciousness.
Eclipse Aviation is facing further issues in its effort to begin deliveries of its very light jet and sent a 12-page letter to customers November 14 outlining wing-attach fitting and cockpit window cracking problems. Following receipt of FAA type certification on September 30, Eclipse has yet to deliver its first airplane but expects to do so within days, president and CEO Vern Raburn told AIN.
Aircraft windows specialist PPG Aerospace Transparencies is to supply Bell/Agusta and Airbus. Bird-impact tests have been completed on three windshield configurations, claimed to be among the largest in aviation, designed for the Bell/Agusta AB139 helicopter.
