This special report aims to answer some simple questions: is the aviation industry missing an important element of pilot training that needs to be addressed throughout a pilot’s career? And if so, what is that missing element and how should it be provided to pilots to keep them safe throughout their careers? Finally, if that element can be identified, would it make sense to replace some existing training with new training that addresses the missing element instead of forcing pilots to endure repetitive practice of maneuvers and emergencies that are not only extremely unlikely to occur but also take up valuable time that could be spent on more productive training?
