Gulfstream Aerospace’s biggest customer relations event, the biennial Operators and Suppliers Conference, is scheduled for June 9 to 12 at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. The event focuses on safety, operational issues and technical updates for all personnel involved in the operation of Gulfstream aircraft. The conference also serves as a forum for customer feedback and ideas.

News and issues about aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), covering all segments of the aviation industry; and modifications for aircraft and engines. Subjects include product support of aircraft, engines and avionics, MRO company mergers, acquisitions, announcements and personnel, Airworthiness Directives, Supplemental Type Certificate approvals and other topics.
Banyan Air Service honored its employees and celebrated its ninth annual Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT Day) on May 23, paying tribute to Charles Taylor, the first AMT. Taylor built Orville and Wilbur Wright’s engine.
The FAA recently issued an STC for the Astronics Max-Viz 1500 enhanced vision system (EVS) on Pilatus PC-12s equipped with video-capable multifunction displays. The system permits pilots to see more clearly at night and up to eight to 10 times farther than the unaided human eye in many obscured visibility conditions.
Keystone Aviation has donated a Piper Seneca to the Salt Lake City Community College aviation department. The aircraft will be part of an educational reconstruction experience for approximately 200 students.
Constant Aviation has received STC approval from Brazil’s ANAC to install Swiftbroadband Aviator 200 and Aircell GoGo Wi-Fi systems in the Phenom 300. “The approval allows the installation of a solution for worldwide in-flight Wi-Fi connections on Brazilian-registered aircraft. Our experience on the Phenom not only provides operators a reliable solution but also allows this STC to be installed at any of our three nationwide locations.
Cabin Comfort Systems is expanding its capabilities to include helicopter customizing, refurbishment and maintenance services for third-party operators. In addition to expanding facilities and service centers in Hagerstown, Md., and Philadelphia, it has named Grayson Barrows as the director of marketing and sales for its cabin comfort systems division. “Grayson’s responsibilities will include business development for new helicopter completions, pre-owned aircraft refurbishments and MRO services,” said the company.
Spectrum Aeromed added three engineers. Jerick Hedges will be responsible for design, drafting and structural analysis of manufactured products, and will write the STC approval reports. Hedges was an intern at the company before his recent graduation from North Dakota State University (NDSU). Engineer Craig Hedstrom, also a 2014 NDSU grad with a B.S. in mechanical engineering, will be a mechanical engineering intern. Ryan Rensink has joined the company in the newly created position of quality engineer.
The FAA proposes to adopt a new airworthiness directive for certain Rockwell Collins TDR-94 and TDR-94D mode-S transponders. The AD was prompted by instances of the transponders not properly responding to mode-S only all-call interrogations when the airplane transitioned from a ground to airborne state.
Located at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Delta Private Jets (DPJ) is unique in U.S. aircraft maintenance.
“Delta Air Lines is the only major U.S. airline that operates a private jet charter operation. DPJ has a unique relationship with Delta Air Lines in that we have access to the depth and breadth of support that only a major international air carrier can provide, such as its huge customer base, sales and marketing capability and legal support,” DPJ COO John Daly, a retired Marines officer and F/A-18 pilot, told AIN.
The Aviation Alliance’s plan to remanufacture Cessna 421s and Gulfstream GIIIs is moving forward, according to managing director Geoff Miller, despite financial setbacks that have caused delays. Some people, such as former Cessna CEO Jack Pelton, and partners are no longer associated with the Alliance, and a new source of funding had to be found. “That’s why there was a hesitation in the cash flow,” Miller told AIN.
