Brazilian Socialist Party presidential candidate Eduardo Campos was among seven people killed when a Cessna Citation Excel crashed around 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning while trying to land at Guaruja military air base, near the city of Santos. The Santos fire department confirmed that two people on the ground were killed when the aircraft crashed into the Boqueirão residential area, damaging five properties.
As aircraft membership club Wheels Up celebrates its first anniversary next Friday, founder and CEO Kenny Dichter said the company has expanded in line with initial projections and he predicted even more growth in the coming year. “We currently have 28 airplanes, nearly 600 members and are on target for meeting and exceeding our business objectives. In a short time, we are a major player in the private aviation industry,” he said.
Retired Brazilian soccer star Fernandao Lúcio da Costa and four others died June 7 in central Brazil in the nighttime crash of a Helibras HB350BA Esquilo helicopter. The privately owned helicopter took off in calm, clear skies at 1:25 a.m. from a river beach in Araunã, 220 miles from the state capital Goiânia, and traveled less than 1,000 feet before crashing with sufficient force to separate the cabin and tail. On June 13, a Cessna CitationJet carrying mourners to a funeral mass for Fernandao crashed at Araunã, but everyone on board survived.
Thanks to the generosity of Women in Corporate Aviation (WCA) members and 12 corporate aviation company sponsors, the association will award more than $100,000 in aviation scholarships–a record amount–on October 22 at the NBAA Convention in Orlando, Fla.

If it isn’t blindingly obvious already that Cessna has made a huge shift to Garmin avionics in its lineup of business jets, then the addition of the G3000 flight deck to the Citation CJ2+ is yet another indicator of where the company is headed. The G3000 upgrade for the CJ2+ is part of a new package, called the Alpine edition, that is not an option for new jets coming off the assembly line in Wichita but is available only as a retrofit. Cessna has also switched the CJ3 to the G3000 system in the new CJ3+, but this is for new jets, not retrofits.
To help meet the demand for equipment needed for the Jan. 1, 2020 ADS-B OUT mandate in U.S. airspace, JetTech has received an STC amendment that adds ADS-B capability to Cessna Citation 500 series jets. The amended STC covers Citation 500s modified by JetTech with Garmin GTN 650 and 750 touchscreen com and navigation systems.
A prototype of Cessna’s newest midsize jet offering, the Citation Latitude, flew for the first time on Tuesday, lifting off from Wichita Mid-Continent Airport at 10 a.m. local time with senior flight-test pilots Aaron Tobias and Marcus Mannella in the left and right seats, respectively.
Cessna Aircraft celebrated Christmas two days early with first deliveries today of both the new Citation M2 and the Citation Sovereign+ models. Deliveries began immediately following certifications by the Federal Aviation Administration, with the first M2 going to best-selling author, pilot and former Citation Mustang owner Stuart Woods.
