At EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, Rockwell Collins welcomed visitors to its pleasantly air-conditioned pavilion to share new technologies that are coming soon to cabin-class cockpits, including a touchscreen interface for the Pro Line Fusion avionics suite. Rockwell Collins tested the touchscreen concept extensively with focus groups, with the goal of providing a way for pilots to keep their eyes forward instead of buried in a center console when manipulating avionics. The Rockwell Collins touchscreen PFD and MFD Pro Line Fusion system is targeted at a wide sector of the market, from single-engine turboprops and light jets to Part 25 jets.
The FAA issued an amended supplemental type certificate for the VoiceFlight Systems VFS101, adding new units to the company’s approvals for voice command of Garmin GNS navigators. The amendment adds the GNS430W and 530W, allowing pilots to use speech command instead of knobs to control a wider variety of Garmin navigators.

AvConnect has introduced a new service that downloads the data–more than 70 data points per second–stored by Garmin G1000 avionics systems. The data can be viewed by the aircraft owner or operator or shared with mechanics and maintenance providers or aircraft and component manufacturers. AvConnect uses the gathered data to populate its primary products, including pilot logbooks, aircraft maintenance tracking systems and aircraft tax records.
Eurocopter is hiring 300 research and development engineers, with at least four years of experience, for its new programs. There are more than 100 job titles available in service bulletin coordination, acoustic engineering and production planning, among others, at the company’s locations in Marignane, France, and Donauwörth, Germany.
Kestrel Aircraft selected Honeywell’s TPE331-14GR to power its all-composite single-engine turboprop. The Brunswick, Maine-based company was founded by Alan Klapmeier, co-founder of Cirrus Aircraft, to bring the former Farnborough Aircraft F1 Kestrel turboprop to market.
Avidyne announced this week at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., that it is joining the push into touchscreen avionics control with the launch of the IFD540 FMS/GPS/navcom system. The IFD540 is a plug-and-play replacement for the Garmin GNS530, slotting into the Garmin tray and taking up the same real estate on the panel.
Rockwell Collins announced at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh that its engineers have developed a touchscreen interface for the Pro Line Fusion avionics suite. While no OEM has yet ordered Pro Line Fusion with the touchscreen interface, deployment could take place in time for some upcoming Fusion-equipped jet programs, according to systems engineer Dave Gribble, depending on certification requirements.
