Sukhoi SSJ100

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft and Alenia Aeronautica yesterday announced the launch of an executive version of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) regional jet. Dubbed the SBJ, or Sukhoi Business Jet, the project willwould fall under the responsibility of Italian support and marketing arm Superjet International, the joint venture between Alenia and Suhoi Holding.

    Alenia Aeronautica’s standing as a player in the fast-developing UAV market has been bolstered by its role a first-level partner in Europe’s Neuron unmanned combat air vehicle program. Last month, the Italian company delivered the first weapons bay doors and its operating mechanism to program leader Dassault Aviation.

Here at the Paris Air Show, ATR is showcasing its newly certified ATR 72-600 in the livery of Royal Air Maroc. Meanwhile, the European airframer’s final assembly line in Toulouse is to ramp up production of the 70-seater by 40 percent–in part driven by expectations of significant new orders to be placed at Le Bourget this week. Plans for a 90-seater could be firmed up next year.

Alenia Aermacchi flew the first production M-346 on March 31. It is the first of 15 aircraft ordered by the Italian Air Force, which has designated the new jet trainer T-346A. The Italian manufacturer said that a highly automated production line capable of delivering up to 48 aircraft per year was now established at Venegono.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 has gained Russian certification, more than two-and-a-half years after the first prototype embarked on its maiden flight.

Simultaneously, Russian certification authority IAC AR granted a design organization approval certificate to Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company based on an audit of the aircraft development quality system and Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (SCAC) performance.

Judging by figures released at a Paris press briefing on January 20, the waning resurgence of the commercial turboprop market has, if anything, resumed at a stronger pace than at any other time since the segment began reclaiming lost ground from the regional jet market a half-decade ago, at least for Franco-Italian manufacturer ATR.

Major subassemblies for the Neuron UCAV technology demonstrator have been delivered to Dassault Aviation, which acts as prime contractor and design authority for this pan-European project. Sweden-based Saab handed over the front and central sections, while HAI in Greece delivered the rear fuselage.

Superjet International secured a key export order for the SSJ100 in January, while SSJ manufacturer Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (SCAC) acknowledged that certification of the 95-seat regional jet had stalled once again to late January–some four weeks later than the most recent slipped deadline of December 28.
