Airbus has awarded Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) a contract to supply composite rudders for the A330-200 and A330-300 long-range commercial jets. Under the terms of the deal, signed Monday at the Paris Air Show, TAI (Hall 4 E75) will serve as a single-source supplier through the life of the A330. Plans call for rudder manufacture to take place at TAI’s Ankara Kazan facilities in Turkey, from where the company already supplies Airbus A350 XWB ailerons and control surfaces for a number of commercial/military aircraft platforms.

Comlux has taken delivery of the first Airbus ACJ321, which makes the aircraft charter firm the first company to have every single-aisle Airbus corporate jet variant–the ACJ318, ACJ319, ACJ320 and ACJ321–in its fleet. The ACJ321 is being outfitted with a VIP cabin by Comlux America in Indianapolis and is scheduled to be completed next year. Comlux was an early Airbus Corporate Jetliner customer and was the first to operate the Airbus ACJ318. Its fleet now includes five Airbus ACJs.

“The honeymoon has lasted longer than on previous aircraft: people go out of their way to fly on [the A380 very-large airliner],” according to Airbus programs executive vice-president Tom Williams. By the beginning of this month, the European manufacturer had delivered 103 aircraft from the 262 for which it holds firm orders, leaving a backlog of 159, equivalent to about six years’ production.

A350 first flight

Airbus began the 2,500-hour flight-test program for its new A350XWB when the new long-range widebody took off for the first time at almost exactly 10:00 a.m. local time in Toulouse, France, on Friday. The eagerly awaited first flight over southwestern France lasted slightly more than four hours and the twinjet, powered by Rolls-Royce’s Trent XWB engines, safely touched down back in Toulouse at 2:05 p.m.

The C4you corporate jet customer care team is located at the Airbus Technical AOG center in Toulouse, France, and is comprised of experienced Airbus professionals ready to accommodate the company’s more than 500 corporate jet owners needing assistance with a maintenance or service item.

Record Airbus deliveries in 2012 proved a big factor in boosting the group revenues of parent EADS by 15 percent last year, and a strengthened U.S. dollar improved the return on sales. But at last week’s EADS annual results press conference, the group characterized 2013 as a critical year in terms of ensuring that the costs associated with both the A380 and A350XWB programs do not drag down profitability any more than they already have done.

The Airbus Corporate Jet Centre has signed a customized support package covering the two Airbus ACJs that the center has delivered to Russia’s state flight department, which flies the aircraft on government transport duties. The support contract is part of ACJC’s VIP Pass, a program that provides support dedicated to the ACJ, rather than relying on airliner-type MRO support.
