Smartphone maker BlackBerry (née RIM) plans to close its corporate flight department as part of a comprehensive restructuring plan aimed at stemming losses that are set to total as much as $995 million during its second fiscal quarter, which ended last month. New chief executive Thorsten Heins has decided to sell a Bombardier Global Express that the Waterloo, Ontario-based company bought pre-owned as recently as July for an undisclosed price.
AviIT will provide eMan to manage the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Air Services’ technical manuals. It will be delivered as a managed service hosted in the AviIT regional data center. RCMP aircraft maintenance engineers will have 24-hour access to all technical manuals and associated documents regardless of their location. The eMan system eliminates the need for costly, multiple document subscriptions and ensures complete revision management, audit capabilities, compliance tracking and version control.
Bombardier Aerospace continues to expand its aftermarket service network in Latin America with the addition earlier this year of Brazil’s Maga Aviation as an authorized service facility for the Learjet 40 line.
Located at Aeroporto de Amarais Campinas in São Paulo state, Maga Aviation is home to more than 20 technicians working in a 2,230-sq-m (24,000-sq-ft) maintenance hangar. The facility works in close collaboration with Bombardier’s regional support office in São Paulo to provide integrated support to business aircraft customers based in or flying through the region.
On June 13, Todd Reichert and the AeroVelo team (mostly students at the University of Toronto) entered the history books, winning the American Helicopter Society’s Igor I. Sikorsky Human-Powered Helicopter Competition. The competition requires flying above three meters for at least one minute within a 10- by 10-meter space.
Brazilian aviation services provider Lìder Aviação is the new “exclusive representative” in Brazil for Bombardier Aerospace. Lìder, based in Belo Horizonte, will be responsible for sales of the Canadian OEM’s Globals, Challengers and Learjets. The two companies have a long history together. Lìder was the company that introduced the Learjet in Brazil in 1968. It is also the Brazilian representative of U.S.-based Beechcraft for the company’s turboprop and piston aircraft.
Bombardier business jet operators in Europe will soon have access to a broader range of services through Bombardier’s service center at Amsterdam-Schiphol International Airport. Bombardier will add engine services, interior refurbishment and aircraft cleaning and detailing services to its line and heavy maintenance offerings for Learjets, Challengers and Globals.
Saying it is “confident in the strong, long-term potential of the business aircraft industry,” Bombardier Aerospace released a 20-year forecast on Friday that predicts deliveries of 24,000 business jets worth $650 billion in the segments in which the company competes. Bombardier’s latest business aircraft market forecast anticipates 9,800 aircraft deliveries worth $269 billion from 2013 to 2022 and 14,200 aircraft worth $381 billion from 2023 to 2032.
Bombardier Aerospace received a firm order from an undisclosed customer for 12 Global 8000s worth about $804 million, the Canadian aircraft manufacturer said today at the Paris Air Show. Unveiled at the 2010 NBAA Convention, the 7,900-nm-range Global 8000 is slated to enter service in 2017.
A cabin mockup of Bombardier Aerospace’s new Learjet 75 will make its Mexican debut in Toluca, from April 18 to 27. The mockup will be on display during the 10th edition of Aero Expo in Toluca, Mexico, from April 18 to 20, as well as for an extended display period in Toluca at Assertec’s hangar from April 20 to 27. Derived from the Learjet 45, the new Learjet twinjet will enter service later this year, Bombardier said.
Bombardier Aerospace appointed Ian Ludlow general manager of its Amsterdam service center. He has 30 years’ experience in commercial and business aircraft operations and maintenance from numerous management and consulting roles within the UK and Europe. Ludlow, who will focus on building strong relationships within the operator community and with regulatory authorities, is known for successfully managing aftermarket supply chains, international deployment and business development.
