Heritage Aviation is celebrating the opening of its new 79,000-sq-ft FBO at Burlington International Airport in Vermont on May 20. Guests are invited to view the eco-friendly facility, which features roof-mounted solar panels and a wind turbine, rain-water catchment and reuse system and furnishings hand-crafted by local artisans.
BAE Systems has contracted with Design Q to develop five concepts for the Avro Business Jet (ABJ) and revealed the first of the new designs–the ABJ Explorer–yesterday at EBACE. A unique design element of the Explorer is the “Air Deck” viewing platform adapted from the cargo side-door modification.
Signature Flight Support (Booth No. 7070) has appointed airline and travel veteran Maria Sastre as the company’s chief operating officer for global operations. Sastre previously served as United Airlines’ vice president of worldwide customer satisfaction, where she managed strategy development, airport operations, international call centers and financial management.
The FAA and the National Park Service are developing an Air Tour Management Plan for Washington’s Mount Rainier National Park pursuant to the National Parks Air Tour Management Act of 2000. Five air-tour operators currently conduct air tours in the area and are limited to a combined 114 tours per year. The public comment period ends this month.
The SilverWing at Sandpoint luxury residential community at Sandpoint Municipal Airport in Idaho is progressing, with completion of the first model unit and several lots and a shell building in escrow. The 18-acre development has direct access to Sandpoint Airport.
PremiAir, the operator of the London Heliport (also known as Battersea), is to open a new passenger terminal “this spring.” It will replace a 50-year-old building that is to be demolished. The increased ramp space will provide greater capacity at peak times. The new facilities were formally handed over by the builder, Weston Homes, on February 11.
M.C. Schefft, flight dispatcher and travel coordinator for Peabody Energy of St. Louis, won a two-day trip for two to the Tanglewood Resort at Lake Texoma, Texas, at the S&D conference. The prize includes two nights at the resort and breakfast for two people, a one-day golf pass and a one-day charter fishing trip. Texoma Jet, an FBO and aircraft maintenance facility in Denison, Texas, awarded the prize.
The extensively redeveloped London Heliport is set to reopen this spring. It is owned by charter operator PremiAir and is situated at Battersea on the south bank of the Thames River about four miles from the center of London. The new terminal is directly connected to the new five-star Hotel Verta, which is owned by PremiAir’s parent company von Essen Hotels.
Data from the FAA debunks the myth that fractional operators grab most of the holiday slots at the Colorado mountain airports, namely Eagle, Aspen and Rifle Airports. For the most recent holiday season (December 19 to January 4), fractionals accounted for 455 of the 1,467 slots at Aspen, which equates to 31 percent; 409 of 1,121 at Eagle (36 percent); and 191 of 484 at Rifle (39 percent).
