Flight services specialist Universal Weather & Aviation selected Air Chef as the preferred business aviation caterer for its clients at four U.S. locations: Dallas and Austin, Texas; Washington, D.C.; and South Florida. Columbus, Ohio-based Air Chef provides training and standardized menus to approved kitchens at 15 locations nationwide and expects to add another 20 locations by the end of the year.

Effective January 23, the FAA is codifying the provisions of Title VIII of the National Parks Air Tour Management Act of 2000. This new law finalizes the government’s definition of just what constitutes a commercial air-tour operator (chiefly, an entity that flies sightseers over the Grand Canyon or any other of the 384 parks of the National Park Service regularly at an altitude of less than 5,000 ft agl).

The interior package offers a choice of eight materials and color schemes and includes all soft goods and removal of the old interior.

Piedmont Aviation Component Services recently added ATR 42 landing gear to its list of capabilities. Jennifer Giordano, Piedmont landing gear marketing manager, said, “Adding the ATR 42 to our landing-gear menu allows us to service additional equipment for our current customers as well as expand our customer base to include those flying the Dash 8-300.” The company also offers Dash 8-300 landing gear equipment for loan/exchange purposes.

Embraer Executive Aircraft has selected Alto Aviation of Leominster, Mass., as the baseline cabin entertainment audio system for all the Brazilian manufacturer’s Legacy 600s. The Alto system includes six mid/high enclosures, three subwoofers and two customized EQ amplifiers and weighs 21.4 pounds.

When Peter Campbell was managing the interior completion of a BBJ2 for a client, he became concerned about the expensive blended wood flooring and leather paneling inside the main cabin door. So he made a sketch of an awning attached to the top of the BBJ’s door and presented it to Lufthansa Technik Completion Center designers in Hamburg, Germany.

Central Coast Aviation announced plans to build an FBO facility, to be called Salinas Jet Center, at Salinas Municipal Airport near California’s Monterey Peninsula. Groundbreaking is scheduled to take place next year, and the Jet Center will include more than 100,000 sq ft of hangar space, 40,000 sq ft of office space, a hotel, restaurant and conference center.

FEC Heliports, in Chesham, UK, is offering a portable aluminum helipad that can be used with helicopters weighing up to 15,000 pounds. Company representative Colin Little said the Portapad can be built in two hours. It can be accommodated in a car trailer similar to those used for glider transport. All usual accessories can be fitted to it. These can be a hot fluid-based snow melt system, a windsock or removable steps, for example.
