Dassault Falcon’s newest satellite service station has opened at West Palm Beach Airport in Florida. DAS–West Palm Beach, an FAA approved facility, is certified to perform “A” inspections up to the “4A+” level on the Falcon 50, Falcon 2000, Falcon 900 and Falcon 7X. EASA approval is expected within the next 30 days. In addition to the service station, a Falcon AOG “GoTeam” is also located at the facility.

Trip-Speed is a simple iPhone app that helps aircraft owners and management firms communicate about aircraft availability for charter flights. Aviation attorney Stewart Lapayowker developed Trip-Speed to solve a key problem: getting timely agreement from an owner when a charter trip pops up.

StandardAero has signed an exclusive maintenance agreement with Slovenia’s Adria Airways for its Honeywell RE220 and GTCP36-150RJ APUs. Slovenia’s flag carrier operates four CRJ900s fitted with RE220 APUs and six CRJ100/200s fitted with GTCP36-150RJ APUs. Beyond the manufacturer itself, StandardAero is the only independent maintenance, repair and overhaul provider authorized to service the Honeywell RE220 APU and holds a favorable position in the GTCP36-150RJ APU market. The work will be performed at StandardAero’s Maryville, Tenn. facility.

The City of Pompano Beach is extending the main runway at Pompano Beach Airpark by 500 feet. Upon completion early this year, Runway 15-33 at the Fort Lauderdale area airport will be 4,918 feet long, allowing for easier takeoffs and landings and affording an increased level of safety.

The present expansion is somewhat ironic. The city–in an attempt to emphasize the former military training base’s GA-only usage–shortened 15-33 from its original length of 5,000 feet to its current length of 4,420 feet in 1971.

Super-size airline orders have been practically commonplace, manufacturers of military hardware flock to the region, and business aviation is a natural fit for those who must make themselves mobile on a global scale.

Lately, I find myself growing tired of memorials, most recently the one that fills the empty hole in the ground where the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers once stood, which its creators hope will, in some way, fill the empty holes in the hearts of so many.
