Thomas Foley, CEO of Greenville, S.C.-based Stevens Aviation, has been appointed by President Bush to serve as director of private-sector development in Iraq. Foley, 51, will lead a staff responsible for developing and implementing a privatization plan for some 200 state-owned enterprises and managing trade and foreign investments into Iraq. He and President Bush first met in 1974 when both were attending Harvard University.
On September 24, Signature Flight Support began requiring customers at its worldwide chain of 46 FBOs to sign an “indemnification agreement for acts of war and terrorism.” The “hold harmless” agreement was the result of a decision by insurers to cancel Signature’s extended coverage endorsement for war risk liability insurance, effective 8 p.m. that day.

A recent survey of fewer than 60 pilots on the state of the business aviation industry’s security measures is significantly flawed, NBAA asserts. The study, by Dallas-based Aviation Marketing Consultants (AMC), concluded that “flight departments consider themselves largely immune to acts of terrorism, vandalism or other criminal activities, and little has changed in terms of their day-to-day security procedures since 9/11.”

The Small Business Administration (SBA) announced expanded access to its Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) as a result of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
