Bell Helicopter has announced that it has delivered the first 407GX aircraft into India. The customer is SpanAir, a leading air charter company that has operated the Bell 407 since 1996, and later added a Model 429. The company provides customized travel options and offers a modern, well-equipped fleet.

L-3 Mission Integration has selected Rockwell Collins’ Flight2 avionics for the Republic of Korea Navy P-3C upgrade. L-3 is a subcontractor to Korean Air, which is performing the upgrade.

Low-cost carriers (LCCs) have succeeded in Southeast Asia more than in perhaps any other part of the world. Whereas LCCs carry around 26 percent of global traffic, in countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines that figure has exceeded 50 percent. With China’s skies being opened to LCCs the expansion in the Asia Pacific region is set to carry on.

Rockwell Collins claims its new MultiScan ThreatTrack weather radar delivers far more information about atmospheric threats than existing systems.

Rockwell Collins is introducing its new MultiScan ThreatTrack weather radar at this year’s Singapore Airshow. The avionics group claims the radar provides air transport aircraft with “unprecedented” atmospheric threat-assessment capabilities.

Honeywell and Inmarsat have finalized the critical design review of the GX Aviation avionics, which is promised to bring “home equivalent” high-speed broadband service to both business jets and airliners. Certification of the avionics is expected later this year, followed by product introduction during the first half of next year.

John Slieter, Duncan Aviation’s v-p of sales, was recently named chairman of Honeywell’s Channel Partner Advisory Board (CPAB). Members of the CPAB work together to provide recommendations to improve Honeywell’s service and support for their mutual end-customers. Board members are representatives from Honeywell’s channel partners supporting engines, auxiliary power units, airframes, avionics and interior refurbishments. Slieter will work with Honeywell leaders to improve internal communication and external promotion to channel partners and customers.

Duncan Aviation finished its second Falcon 900B cockpit with Universal Avionics displays in December, installing Universal’s EFI-890R system in the cockpit and Honeywell’s Venue cabin management and entertainment system in the cabin. Duncan also installed a newly designed interior and exterior paint. The flight deck upgrade replaced 25 old instruments with five 8.9-inch Universal EFI-890R displays, which also show engine indications via Universal’s engine interface units.

Pilots all over the world are probably sick of hearing that “ADS-B is coming,” but the fact is that some countries already require ADS-B capability, and other countries’ deadlines are rapidly approaching. ADS-B equipage needs to remain prominent in pilots’ consciousness because avionics shops need time to certify ADS-B out installations and time to complete the installations. A rough estimate by Cessna’s product support organization, just for the U.S.

Garmin’s eLearning online training for the G5000 flight deck blazes a trail in avionics tuition, combining elements of voice-guided demonstration followed by hands-on practice. AIN tested the demo version of the full G5000 Essentials course, which is a portion of the full G5000 eLearning program. The entire G5000 eLearning course costs $699 for a 180-day subscription.

F-35 helmet-mounted display system

F-35 test pilots will begin flying this year with a third-generation helmet mounted display system (HMDS) that incorporates modifications to the earlier-generation display system, which the Pentagon has identified as an F-35 program risk.
