Aviation data services provider FlightAware has extended its free web-based flight-tracking service to Australian customers. This makes Australia the first country outside North America to be offered its web-based flight tracking on FlightAware.com, which tracks both general aviation and commercial flights.

Flightdocs released an aircraft maintenance tracking iPad application that allows flight crews to access and report aircraft maintenance information in real time, even while an aircraft is airborne.

Estero, Fla.-based Flightdocs, a provider of aircraft maintenance tracking software and services, released on Monday what it says is the first aircraft maintenance tracking iPad application. The Flightdocs Mobile Information Center app is available free at the iTunes store, though a Flightdocs maintenance tracking subscription is required.

All of the major airline airports along the U.S. eastern seaboard reopened today after Hurricane Irene forced the cancellation of nearly 12,000 flights over the weekend. The major airports in Boston and New York began to see arrivals early this morning and started allowing departures at around noon. By about 8 a.m., Washington, D.C.

At press time, the FAA had received nearly 700 comments on its notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) to dramatically curtail the Block Aircraft Registration Request (Barr) program. The comment period officially ended on April 4, but comments continue to be accepted on the public docket.

Spidertracks (Booth No. 4854), based in Palmerstown North, New Zealand, offers a global satellite-based system for fleet operators that tracks equipped aircraft in real time and records movements and flight data for later analysis.

FlightAware announced at the NBAA Convention that users of its online flight-tracking, flight-data and flight-planning services can now make fuel arrangements with the new free FuelAware service. FuelAware allows dispatchers and pilots to submit pricing requests anonymously to FBOs for passenger, pilot and aircraft services and to make reservations at FBOs.
