A day after news of the NetJets order for 50 Hawker 400XPs, Cessna Aircraft parent company Textron announced that it expects no financial impact from the fractional provider’s earlier cancellation of an order for 50 Citation CJ3s. The company expects the canceled order, applied to jets slated for delivery in the late 2005 to 2008 timeframe, to be reallocated to existing customer orders.

Cessna last month announced the availability of special Service Bulletins for operators who want to upgrade their airplanes with Honeywell’s runway awareness and advisory system (RAAS), a roughly $17,000 optional add-on for the enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS). Cessna service centers can perform the RAAS software and hardware updates for operators of Citation Bravos, Encores, Excels and Xs equipped with EGPWS.

As the Eclipse 500 was being rolled out last month, the Citation Mustang very light jet was fast taking form at Cessna’s Pawnee facility in Wichita. At press time, workers had already assembled forward and aft cabin sections, and the Mustang’s wings were being assembled.

With record deliveries, orders and backlogs, last year was an “incredible year” for Cessna, said Lewis Campbell, chairman, president and CEO of parent company Textron. Yingling doesn’t do beer. That’s Yuengling in Pottsville, Pa. Yingling Aviation in Wichita does business aircraft. Most recently, Yingling has created a joint ownership program offering partnerships on refurbished and updated Cessna Conquests. The program was launched with a 441 Conquest II and a 425 Conquest I, for which Yingling’s completion and refurbishment center did major cabin modifications.

Kerry Trosper was named general manager for Landmark Aviation’s Wichita Falls, Texas FBO. He was most recently line service manager at Kerrville Aviation in Kerrville, Texas. James Wilson was named general manager of the Dulles, Va. location. He was previously sales manager for Landmark Aviation’s charter and management business.

Cessna has placed an order with avionics maker Innovative Solutions & Support for an undisclosed number of flat-panel cockpit displays that will be offered as part of an upgrade program for operators of older Citations. At press time Cessna had not disclosed the value of the order or given a price for the retrofits, but it is known that the installations will be performed at the 34 authorized Cessna Service Centers worldwide.

Cessna will construct a Citation Service Center at the Williams Gateway Airport in Mesa, Ariz., and close the Long Beach, Calif. service center. The new operation is scheduled to open in a “phased transition” by the first quarter of 2009. The company said the Mesa facility will be more than twice as large as its Long Beach facility and have more than 10 times the ramp space.

Cessna is calling for an additional 260 Citation owners and operators from among NBAA attendees to meet the target total of 400 aircraft for the fifth annual Citation Special Olympics Airlift, July 2 to 7 next year at Iowa State University in Ames. The event will be the largest ever, with the need to carry more than 2,500 athletes, coaches and delegates.

The FAA has awarded FlightSafety International’s new Farnborough, England training center a Part 142 certificate, allowing crews to complete FAA-approved training at the UK facility. For pilots from outside the U.S., this provides a way to avoid the considerable inconvenience and delays associated with U.S. immigration procedures. The 92,000-sq-ft building opened last year and can accommodate up to 15 full-motion simulators.
