Last month FlightSafety International and Gulfstream Aerospace opened a new learning center in Hong Kong to serve Asian operators of the G450 and G550 jets. Equipped with a G550 level-D-qualified full-flight simulator that is convertible to a G450, the new facility expects to provide 250 “training events” this year, according to David Davenport, manager of FlightSafety’s Savannah learning center, a key player in defining the Hong Kong facility and its responsible manager now that it is up and running.

Gulfstream Aerospace views India as a long-term growth market for its business jets, regional senior vice president of international sales for South America and the Far East Roger Sperry said yesterday at India Aviation 2012. Gulfstream is displaying a midsize G150 and large-cabin G450 at the show, which is being held in Hyderabad until Sunday.

Gulfstream has appointed Jet Aviation St. Louis as a factory-authorized service center. The approval gives the facility OEM authorization to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on the Gulfstream G350, G400, G450, G500, G550, GIV/IV-SP and GV. “This designation allows us to provide warranty support for Gulfstream aircraft and facilitates our access to parts and Gulfstream technical support,” said Charles Krugh, senior vice president and general manager.

Gulfstream Aerospace said on Friday that its super-midsize G280 received a provisional type certificate from the FAA, some two months after receiving identical approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel. According to Gulfstream, the principal remaining item required before the FAA and CAAI issue full type certificates is an update to the software for the twinjet’s Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics.

Hawker Beechcraft found itself on the receiving end of the Lion Air spending spree when the Indonesian airline ordered a pair of Hawker 900XPs, with options for two more. The operator says it intends to use the jets, which are scheduled for delivery in the second and third quarters of this year, to meet growing demand for executive charter services throughout Asia. Indonesia, in particular, is a rising regional hotspot thanks to the growth in personal wealth in the country.

Today Gulfstream Aerospace named 25-year business aviation veteran Trevor Esling as regional senior vice president of international sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Esling, who most recently was Cessna Aircraft’s senior vice president of international sales for the EMEA region, is responsible for leading Gulfstream’s EMEA sales team from a base in London. Before working at Cessna, Esling was employed by BAe Commercial Aircraft, BAe Corporate Jets and Raytheon Aircraft.

Gulfstream Aerospace named Steven Meng the regional sales manager for product support sales in Southern California. He reports to Jace Stone, director, product support sales, West Region. Meng, who is based in Long Beach, Calif., is responsible for the sale of maintenance, paint and interior upgrades as well as avionics modifications to Gulfstream and non-Gulfstream operators in Los Angeles, San Diego and the surrounding areas. Before his promotion, Meng was a senior internal sales manager for product support sales at Gulfstream’s facility in Long Beach.

FlightSafety International and Gulfstream Aerospace celebrated the grand opening of the new Hong Kong Learning Center last week. The facility will initially offer training programs for the Gulfstream G450 and G550 using a new level-D qualified flight simulator and other training devices. The number of training events provided by FlightSafety in the Asia Pacific region to Gulfstream operators increased by 230 percent over the past five years.
