The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is interested in making it easier for corporate aircraft to use Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and last month held a security summit with industry associations to discuss the issue. Five NBAA members that have overcome the many obstacles to flying into DCA also attended.

American Eagle’s first shipment of new airplanes in some five years began last month as the Dallas-based regional airline took delivery of two new CRJ700s from Bombardier. Scheduled to accept two airplanes each month for about the next year, Eagle as of last month already flew 25 of the Canadian jets, all of which offered a first-class section as of July 2.

More than two dozen business, civic, labor and environmental organizations have formed a coalition aimed at restoring, maintaining and expanding the New York metropolitan region’s airports. Called the Better Airports Alliance, the group seeks to “educate residents on the problem of airport delays, provide fresh solutions to relieve congestion and build a consensus for major improvements.”

After two previous candidates withdrew their names from consideration, the Transportation Security Administration finally welcomed its new boss on Friday when the Senate confirmed former FBI deputy director John Pistole as TSA administrator. The Department of Homeland Security agency has been without a permanent administrator since President Obama took office.

Without revealing specifics, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) assistant administrator John Sammon said on Tuesday at the National Air Transportation Association Air Charter Summit that his agency is hard at work on a rewrite of the Large Aircraft Security Program (LASP). The TSA met with the general aviation community “about this time last year” to gather input for the new rule, he said.

President Barack Obama yesterday nominated John Pistole as assistant secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, a position where he would also lead the Transportation Security Administration. Pistole’s nomination comes after two previous failed attempts to fill the position over the past year.
