General Electric’s flight department was expected to move this month into its new 100,000-sq-ft hangar/office complex on 12 acres at Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, N.Y., about 50 mi north of Manhattan.

Teterboro Airport (TEB) has adopted a training tool developed by Raleigh, N.C.-based Noverant to help pilots prepare for flights into and out of the busy northern New Jersey airport. Noverant’s system distributes and tracks training that is delivered electronically, and the company helped Teterboro Airport distribute materials for its noise-abatement compliance training in electronic format.
Imagine you’re a business traveler running late after a meeting in downtown Manhattan. Your flight home leaves in an hour from John F. Kennedy International Airport. If you are at all familiar with the geography, you know you’ll miss it–unless, of course, you could take a helicopter from midtown to JFK and then walk straight onto your airplane.
Indigo chairman and CEO Peter Pappas made it clear last month that actions by New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey to block service by Indigo to Teterboro Airport had no legal basis for justification. “We’re bringing a service into an area where it is very much needed, and he [McGreevey] and others are doing nothing more than using a non-issue as a platform to enhance their positions with their constituents,” said Pappas.
Indigo originally launched its “regular and frequent” business aircraft service between Chicago Midway Airport and Teterboro Airport in New Jersey with a Falcon 20 in February 2000. On March 3 the company relaunched the service with its first 16-passenger Embraer Legacy Shuttle.
The FAA is reviewing possible hazards to aircraft operations and revised ATC procedures that would be caused by a proposed 2,000-ft antenna tower 4.8 nm east southeast of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
Piaggio Avanti, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., March 20, 2007–The left landing gear of the Avantair Avanti collapsed on landing at Hollywood International Airport. The left tire blew out and separated from its rim. No one was injured but the airplane was substantially damaged.
A helicopter service connecting Manhattan with New York City airports is due to start this month. On March 13 US Helicopter will introduce an eight-minute S-76B flight between the Wall Street Heliport and JFK Airport. The company will add services linking La Guardia and Newark Liberty International to Wall Street and the East 34th and 30th Street Heliports later this year.
Universal Weather & Aviation relocated its New York-area flight planning facility from Westchester County Airport (HPN) in White Plains, N.Y., to Jet Aviation’s FBO at Teterboro Airport (TEB), N.J. The new office, which houses the same sales staff, will offer a customer service desk, access to Jet Aviation’s pilot lounge and lobby area and more space for additional weather equipment.
The completion date for installation of an engineered material arresting system (EMAS) at the end of Teterboro Airport’s Runway 1-19 is “up in the air,” according to airport manager Richard Heslin.
