The dark clouds that have hung over Teterboro Airport for many months about issues of noise, safety and security evaporated at a press conference last month. For the first time, representatives of neighbors and airport users appeared to be on the same frequency and expressed satisfaction about the apparent meeting of minds.

Last month, the Association of Shared Aircraft Pilots (ASAP)–the union representing NetJets pilots– began its “informational picketing,” a campaign that includes this billboard near Teterboro Airport, N.J. The billboard notes that the pilots and NetJets management have been in negotiations for about three-and-a-half years, and suggests that a strike is possible after June 24.

An “informal” meeting between Platinum Jet Management and the FAA was postponed from November 1. The two have not yet set a new date for the meeting. The get-together is to discuss the FAA’s proposed $1.86 million penalty against the company for its alleged FAR violations in connection with the February 2 accident at Teterboro Airport, N.J., in which a Challenger 600 crashed following an aborted takeoff.
Landing fees are scheduled to increase at New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport (TEB). Effective January 1, aircraft weighing 12,500 pounds or less will be subject to a $22.50 fee. Aircraft weighing 12,501 to 80,000 pounds will be charged $3.15 per 1,000 pounds and those over 80,000 pounds will be charged $5.85 per 1,000 pounds.

Operators needing to hire a ride-along qualified law-enforcement officer to meet one of the special security requirements of flying into Reagan Washington National Airport might want to turn to Jet Professionals. The Teterboro, N.J. company, which provides full- and part-time staff members to corporate flight departments, anticipates recruiting, screening and training 500 qualified officers to be “ready to fly” by the end of the month.
A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) told AIN its chairman, Anthony Coscia, would use “whatever means necessary,” including legal action and “substantial” increases in landing fees, to achieve its agenda at Teterboro Airport (TEB).
Rifton Aviation, the upstate New York FBO formerly owned and operated by the Bruderhof religious community, has been sold. Located at Stewart International Airport (SWF) in Newburgh, N.Y., the ExxonMobil Avitat facility now operates under the name Supermarine, a sister operation to the FBO of the same name in Santa Monica, Calif.
