New Jersey has lost half the airports it had at the end of World War II, with the number dwindling from about 100 to 45, according to aviation attorney William G. Mennen IV, a speaker at this year’s New Jersey Aviation Conference. The lessons learned from the closure of these airports could be instructive for those trying to prevent airport closures in other parts of the country.
Teterboro (N.J.) Airport has become the first in the nation to implement a Web-based airport-specific flight crew briefing. It was produced by the National Air Transportation Association’s (NATA) Safety 1st program and funded by a grant from the FAA.

Due to the New York City metro area airspace redesign, the FAA has introduced three new Stars, effective December 27, for Teterboro, La Guardia and Newark Airports. At Teterboro, the Metro Arrival has been replaced by the Jaike Rnav One Arrival, which is an FMS Star. The Korry One Arrival into La Guardia took the place of the Minks Star. And at Newark, the RBV Star has been superseded by the Dylin One Arrival.

The long and bitter battle over the fate of Solberg Airport in Readington, N.J., may finally be over. Readington Township officials had been proceeding for several years with steps to take the property away from the Solberg family, which has owned it for more than 60 years, under the right of eminent domain. Furious controversy has raged over that action.
Referring to regular operations at Teterboro (N.J.) Airport (TEB), Bergen County (N.J.) freeholder Anthony Cassano said, “This is nothing less than an attack of the skies similar to that which happened on September 11. We are not going to stand for it. We’re not going to take it. This attack must stop.” Cassano’s remarks came at an anti-airport rally in October at an elementary school near the airport.
