The long and bitter battle over the fate of Solberg Airport in Readington, N.J., may finally be over. Readington Township officials had been proceeding for several years with steps to take the property away from the Solberg family, which has owned it for more than 60 years, under the right of eminent domain. Furious controversy has raged over that action.

Referring to regular operations at Teterboro (N.J.) Airport (TEB), Bergen County (N.J.) freeholder Anthony Cassano said, “This is nothing less than an attack of the skies similar to that which happened on September 11. We are not going to stand for it. We’re not going to take it. This attack must stop.” Cassano’s remarks came at an anti-airport rally in October at an elementary school near the airport.

Ken Weber, an Astra pilot based at Teterboro (N.J.) Airport (TEB), won Atlantic Aviation’s “Top-off=$10,000” drawing at last month’s NBAA Convention in Orlando, Fla. Pilots who topped off their aircraft (with at least 200 gal) at an Atlantic Aviation FBO in the months preceding the convention were eligible for the drawing. The prize was a prepaid $10,000 American Express card, which Weber can use for whatever purchases he wants.

Dassault Falcon 900EX, Teterboro, N.J., March 3, 2006–The NTSB blamed the Falcon’s overrun at Teterboro Airport on the copilot’s failure to touch down at the proper point. Factors were the gusty wind conditions (19 knots, gusting to 26), the failure of the flight crew to use the air brakes and a partially contaminated runway.

Pilots flying out of New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport no longer have to suffer long waits to get their clearances. Teterboro is the first general aviation airport in the country to have a TDLS (tower datalink services) system, which speeds up clearance delivery and increases airport capacity.

Air Concepts International of Teterboro, N.J., had two examples of its Cocoon wall panel noise-reduction system on display in two AgustaWestland AW139s at Heli-Expo 2008 in Houston. According to company president Pat Cesaro, the package reduces cabin noise to 69 dB. It has been certified for installation in the AW139 in either the one- or two-door sliding door configuration.

Teterboro Airport is maintaining its position as a favorite target of local legislators. The new session of the state legislature had hardly gotten under way before two anti-Teterboro Assembly Resolutions were introduced. One of the Teterboro-targeted resolutions calls for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to ban flights between midnight and 6 a.m.

Teterboro Airport (TEB) has adopted a training tool developed by Raleigh, N.C.-based Noverant to help pilots prepare for flights into and out of the busy northern New Jersey airport. Noverant’s system distributes and tracks training that is delivered electronically, and the company helped Teterboro Airport distribute materials for its noise-abatement compliance training in electronic format.
