Bombardier this week released its first-ever forecast for the business aviation market segments in which it competes, and the Canadian company’s crystal ball is about as rosy as anyone else’s.

Overall deliveries of Bombardier business jets in the six months ending July 31 declined slightly, to 99 aircraft from 101 in the same period last year, the company announced last month. However, it noted that backlogs for its business jets remain “strong” despite the credit crunch facing financial markets, while deliveries are poised to “accelerate” in the second half of the year.

 Last month, Bombardier Aerospace launched a “classic aircraft support program” after seeing a “dramatic increase” in service and support requests over the past three years from operators of older Learjets and Challengers. But there is a catch–operators are required to pay for the service.

Under its Lear4Ever program, Stevens Aviation is slated to deliver the first Learjet 35SE (Special Edition) next year. The mod includes the Universal 890R avionics suite, Rockwell Collins’ AHC-1000 attitude and heading reference system and a new instrument panel. Options include the Universal UNS-1L FMS, class-A or -B TAWS, L-3 Skywatch, RVSM and Universal Vision 1–the first synthetic-vision system available for a Learjet, said Stevens.

PATS Aircraft, part of DeCrane Aerospace Systems, will be expanding its facilities and hiring up to 200 additional employees over the next 18 months in response to its strong business growth, the company announced yesterday. PATS provides auxiliary fuel systems and interior completions work for business, commercial and military aircraft manufacturers.

The National Business Aviation Association presents Pilot Safety Awards each year to member-company pilots with exemplary safety records. To be eligible for an award, a pilot must have flown corporate aircraft 1,500 hours without an accident, but the actual number of safe hours flown by many of the top pilots comes close to 30,000 hours.
