Eyebrows were raised in January when Grob was named as the single source for the Learjet 85’s entire primary and secondary composite structures. That was because Zurich-based Grob is also developing another all-composite light jet, its own SPn, which could potentially compete with Bombardier’s Learjet 40XR.

Bombardier’s Skyjet International executive aircraft charter program will be in safe hands with proposed new Swiss owner VistaJet, according to the Canadian aircraft manufacturer. Bob Horner, Bombardier’s senior v-p for sales, told EBACE Convention News that the proposed sale would provide a solid base for VistaJet and for operators of the aircraft involved.

Having revealed plans for fleet expansion and a southeast Asia office at EBACE yesterday, local operator VistaJet completed the picture today with an announced firm order for 35 Bombardier business jets. In a purchase plan potentially worth a claimed $1.2 billion, the Swiss company is to buy 11 Challengers 605s, 13 Learjet 60XRs and 11 Learjet 85s.

Zurich-based ExecuJet (Booth No. 1065) yesterday signed for six Bombardier Learjet 85s, making the executive aircraft sales (new and pre-owned), charter, completions and maintenance firm the European launch customer for the all-composite twinjet. The firm order is valued at approximately $103 million, and deliveries to ExecuJet are slated to begin in 2013.

Watch for Bombardier to announce a new light business jet, possibly as soon as the Farnborough Air Show this month. The new aircraft, designated the Learjet 40, is aimed at gaining share of the light business jet market. The company’s current light jet, the Learjet 31A, has been losing market share to the Citation CJ series and the Raytheon Premier I.

New on the In The Works list this month is Bombardier’s latest midsize jet, the Learjet NXT. The company hasn’t provided many details about the program but did say the eight-seat airplane will offer speeds up to Mach 0.82 and an 1,800-nm range.
