Kevin Worthington has joined Dallas Airmotive as a regional engine manager covering several Midwestern states. Worthington will be responsible for selling repair and overhaul services on Pratt & Whitney Canada engines. Previously he sold P&WC engine services for Duncan Aviation at its Battle Creek, Mich. location. Worthington will cover Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio, focusing on engine services sales for the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A, JT15D, PW500, PW306C and Honeywell 36-series APU. He will be based in Michigan.

Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) of Longueuil, Quebec (Booth No. 3317) is not only highlighting its customer support programs here at Heli-Expo 2012, it’s delivering them. Today the company hosts Technical Briefing sessions in room C140 at the Dallas Convention Center for operators and maintenance personnel of PT6 (11 a.m.), PW200 (12 p.m.) and PT6C-67C (1 p.m.) engines.

A Pratt & Whitney Canada technician works on a PT6C turboshaft. The PT6C-67E, which is powering the Eurocopter EC175, is expected to be certified later this year.

Pratt & Whitney Canada (Booth No. 3317) is busy with developments on the PT6C-67E, which powers the Eurocopter EC175 medium twin, and the PW210 family, the powerplant for the Sikorsky S-76D and the AgustaWestland AW169 medium twins.

The PW210S (Sikorsky S-76D) and the PW210A (AgustaWestland AW169) have different certification schedules. The FAA certified the 1,077-shp PW210S last December after a postponement due to delays in the S-76D program.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) certified the country’s “new” home-grown heavy-lift helicopter on January 9. Built at state-owned Avic, the AC313 tips the scales at 27,600 pounds, can carry up to 27 people and has a maximum ferry range of 485 nm and a service ceiling near 28,000 feet. The AC313 appears to be an outgrowth of the 14,000-pound Chinese Zhi-8. That medium helicopter is based on the 1970s-vintage Aérospatiale SA321 Super Frelon.

Smyrna Air Center has added Mather Aviation in Rancho Cordova, Calif., to its network of authorized installation centers for the Power 90 engine conversion program. The MRO offers inspection, repair, component overhaul and modification for Bombardier, Learjet, Hawker, Falcon, Gulfstream and Cessna jets and Beech King Air turboprops. Power 90 is a conversion program for owners of King Air 90s that replaces the installed PT6s with more powerful 705-shp GE M601E-11As.

The FAA has adopted a new Airworthiness Directive for the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-15AG, -27, -28, -34, -34AG, -34B and -36 turboprop engines. It requires the removal of certain affected PMA replacement Timken Alcor Aerospace Technologies first-stage reduction sun gears and/or the interacting planetary gear sets from the propeller reduction gearbox assembly.

Flying Colours of Peterborough, Ontario, and Chesterfield, Mo., joins Blackhawk’s roster of 77 authorized dealers for its upgraded engine installation programs.

Smyrna Air Center has begun flight testing its Power90 Conversion for the King Air 90 with the 800-shp GE H80 engines. The H80s are expected to deliver enhanced performance and are capable of full power up to 107 degrees F at sea level. Performance will be measured up to the aircraft’s 30,000-ft ceiling.
